Try a different psu[power supply] for box prior to going further.

Have tried two diff power supplies and all the abs files from skybox, any other suggestions?

We all try to help on this forum and this thread is 75 pages long, packed with hints, files and most of all knowledge. Take a little time to read and help yourselves then when you have gone as far as you can go on your own ask for further assistance and we will try to help. Most members that have browsed this thread have gained knowledge and overcome their problem.

Done some reading. It looks like it probably won't work with laptop but some people we're fortunate so I'll give it a go and hope for the best.

My box is 'bricked'... Load on the front of it.

Bought a RS232 cable, downloaded the tools, and firmware for Openbox V8S. But when I select it and hit 'next' it says 'wrong file'.

Don't know if it's the serial port or cable is the problem. When I go into device manager it comes up as 'communications port (com 1)'
Not even sure if that's the right one... Should it say the cable number or something like serial port?
 
Hi, I posted at the weekend. Basically what has happened is that I got my rs232 to usb cable today, downloaded the relevent drivers for windows 10, got it all working until I click next on the EROM upgrade step 1. I get to step 2 where it says synchronizing STBs...please reset target!, I proceed to plug the power cord in but the synchronizing STBs message just remains there. Is there anything that I am doing wrong?
 
A common fault with setting the erom upgrade tool is the powering up of the box---plug your box into a switch socket or fit a barrel switch between box and lead---now instead of pulling the lead in and out you can just power on/off by the switch.
Download the correct erom upgrade tool and f/w No81 from Downloads
Plug in box [don't switch on] and plug in RS232 cable to pc and box.
Open the erom tool---select settings and add file--tick bootloader.
Now press next and power on box----you should see the word "done" appear top right and download should begin---follow instructions
Tip-----if using laptop then ensure you are using correct com port.

hi new to forum but I have peoblem with my skybox f5, it just has the dim red power light when plugged in I believe this means its bricked? I know this is probably in the thread somewhere but where can I find the correct files to download to try and fix it, I have WinRAR and the null modem cable

ive been reading through the thread for a few hours just not to clued up on this stuff im struggling to find the correct files, I downloaded from the download section the erom upgrade 8m flash file but I cant find the sb.abs file to extract, are these even the right files to be using? thanks again
 
sorry to keep posting but I have tried a few things but I just get to the stage where it says synchronizing stbs then done and then it says set stb memory error im guessing this is the wrong abs file?

oh well that's not ideal, thanks for the reply reaper, is there a reason they do this? I had one do this perhaps a year ago, but just bought the current one and now its done the same, they just sit plugged in don't move them about etc, is there a better box I should be looking at??

Ok so I seem to be stuck at this stage for a full day now. As you can see from the picture, I'm quite close to finishing the process but I just cant complete the last few steps. I am on a Windows 10 laptop attempting to fix my Openbox v8s. I am using an rs232 to usb cable. I have download many files but to no solution. I am wondering if it is time to give up or keep trying.96c279dcc1614981a15e05a9b6d88b24.png Whenever i plug power in and out (or switch on at socket) it remains the same instead of the "done" that I have been praying to see. I really would like to have it up and running for tonight. I would greatly appreciate any help.
 
I've have checked everything you suggested. I have even tried everything on a windows 8 laptop. I am still getting to the same stage I have been stuck on all day. Patience is beginning to run out.
 
Hi.. i just buy USB adapter PL2303HXA and its doesn't work after a few times tweaking in device manager.
Do anyone having a same problem?
Appreciate if somebody can share how to solve this problem. Thanks
