I have a skybox f5s and got the dim red light.

Please someone provide an idiots guide on how to fix this. Thanks.

Everything you need and need to know is in this thread--have a read thru.
Secondly there is not much hope of reviving a box with the dim8 problem--but always try.

you need! "usb shnur res 232 and null modem cable" with soldering 2.3 3.2 5.5 either buy or solder yourself!

yes its got dim led light and dim 8 display
I have tried every thing no good
I never get passed the set stb memory error
 
Hi,All, I am trying to fix a F3 for a friend which is stuck on LoAd.I have already fixed a F5 previously so have the Null cable and laptop with a R232 port.I have tried different combinations of the upgrade tool and firmware,but can't get past the stb memory error message.Any suggestions or ideas appreciated or is it well and truly DEAD.
 
UPDATE.Got the cable this morning and worked first time,which is surprising because I used the old cable to fix a F5 a few weeks ago.Maybe different cable for different boxes.I used the upgarde tool from here http://eopenbox.co.uk/tools/recover/.This has a firmware included in the folder,however I got a hardware id mismatch error so I used the F3F5 firmware from skyboxcc dated 27/03/2013 which worked with my box. Everything works as it should so well happy,so it would be worth trying with a diffrent cable if you keep on getting the stb memory error.
 
From previous posts it seems there is a problem getting the cable to work via usb.If it doesn't work try borrowing a laptop with a built in R232 port

Go to the site Ive mentioned in my post #1136.There is an upgrade tool and firmware for the V8
