Still no luck with bricked F5s, Tried RS232 null cable.
Used portmon software to monitors and displays port activity get this at the beginning.

I have a F5S which is working perfectly. As many people seem to be experiencing problems when they update I have purchased the required cables etc. to reflash. What I would like to know is if and how I can test the cables are working without changing anything on my box. Does anyone know?
 
Work on the adage---"If it's not broken, then don't try to fix it"
If you have purchased the recommended accessories then they should work.

I haven't actually tried it myself, but you could try "data dump" mode instead of "upgrade" mode to see if you can dump your firmware to your pc.

Yup, that would prove the cables and correct ports have been selected. Might find that the 8MB flash utility is required instead of the one at the start of this thread. Later and latest boxes seem to only work using that utility.
New V8 Box states on specification that it is 8MB flash. Doesnt say it on F5S, but mine was and I purchased in May 2014.
 
I bricked my f5s when trying to update channel list about two weeks ago. I tried to flash my box myself following the instructions on here but I could not do it and gave up after fiddling about with it for about a week. There is a really helpful guy on this thread called 'the reaper', he tried to explain to me step by step on how to flash it but I couldn't do it. He then said if I send my box to him that he would have a go at flashing it for me and I only had to pay postage costs. I thought this was too good to be true as there are not a lot of people this kind around these days.
After sending my broken box up to him he sent me an email back saying he had received my box and it was already fixed and the new firmware and channel list was on there. Within 3 days I had my box back working great!
I can't thank him enough!
 
Is it a clone

So i tried a few other FW... Without any success :( Only the version from womblefree worked! Does this mean my box is a clone?
I cannot look up the chip id.
 
Of course you can check---what firmware did you use to load, if you can't remember then go to menu--information in your box and it will be there. Then you can go to sites and ascertain where file was from and know whether you have real or clone.

I've been trying this but my,Mac,PC,notebook,laptop don't have a port to put in the cable,so I ordered a USB to male 9 pin converter and connected the 9 pin female to female cable into it but when running the upgrade tool and chose my firmware and include boot loader,when I pressed next,it says opening serial port fail,guys HELP ME PLEASE!!!
 
You have to adjust your s/w to read com1.

Your box is genuine but file is very old and you may have problems upgrading firmware but if it's working then don't try to fix it;)
