I have recently revived a few boxes sent to me as bricked, these boxes came back to life at first attempt by me---I made a few inquiries and ascertained that the qwners were a] trying to use a standard RS232 cable and not a RS232 null modem cable
b] incorrect USB serial adapter to laptop c] incorrect files designated for clone boxes and not original.
The erom program works best on desktop pc using windows XP with null modem cable connected to com port 1. Then follow the instructions given in this post at the start.

Not worth trying, working box not mine if I bricked his box I will be bald I dare to think where he would stick the box.

...I know this has been asked before is it worth getting USB to 9 PIN adapter...

You said in your previous post that you had already tried flashing by RS232. What did you use in that case?

The USB adapters that some members have got working, are those with Prolific PL2303HXD rev D chipset, like this one:-

Prolific PL2303HXD USB to RS232 Serial Cable 9 Pin Male for Win 7 8 - Apple Mac | eBay

When you install the drivers that come with that cable you just have to pay attention which COMM Port it installs the cable too. It tells you during installation. Mine went on Port 3. Default in the software is 1, which is why a lot of users will struggle. Have to change Port in Software to the right one in use.

Kremmen started this post with a well detailed thread giving very precise instructions which if followed will revive your box.
It just takes patience and the right tools.

1] Windows XP on a desktop PC is the preferred starting point.
2] A RS232 null modem cable connected from box to PC.
3]Eromupgrade program installed [I advise not to use any of the files in the erom folder]
4] Ascertain clone or original box.
5] Obtain earliest file you can download plus build a folder containing later files for your box.
6] Now follow Kremmen's guide---if first file upgrade fails then try the next and so on.
It just takes patience but if the box has no internal damage and you use the right tools it will come back to life.

Note:- there is a delay between the first stage and second stage of the program so don't be hasty to power off or go back in screen..

If it works [and no reason why it shouldn't] then remember to say thanks to Kremmen.

I feel a bit guilty when I receive thanks for this thread, as it was actually created by HiTeck. He handed control of it to me a few months ago, when I pointed out a few errors (the main error being that the original instructions told you to browse to the eromclient.abs file, when it should have told you to browse to the firmware file).

I have only just got round to editing it this afternoon! I haven't finished yet. I will include a bit about USB to RS232 adapters & perhaps a few more screen shots of what to expect as the flashing is actually taking place.

I will also include a credit for HiTeck of course.

Read my post above---does not mention eromclient.abs, so where are you confused.
Obtain available firmware for your box---open eromupgrade tool and try to revive box using the earliest firmware first if that doesn't work, try the next file and so on. We all had to learn and everything we've learnt is posted within this thread--it just takes a bit of reading with trial and error.
There are lots of firmware files around, on here and on the i-net. We will always help you if you really get stuck, but as I said, we all had to learn.
Have fun and patience.

I'm still confused.
Flash with eromclient.abs or latest firmware.abs file?

My previous post might have been confusing. I didn't make it clear enough as to which file should have been used.

I have edited my post to make it clearer. You flash with the firmware that you download for your box, not eromclient.abs.

The instructions in the first post are now correct.

Hi i'm pretty new here so please forgive me if I sound stupid for asking this.
My nephew has tried upgrading the channel listing for my brother in laws sky f5s box with a faulty usb stick (gonna kick his arse later). Since that time I cannot get it to turn on?
It is unresponsive and stuck on loading screen.
I've been trying to find solutions for this for a while and came across one of your threads there.

I was just wondering if doing if this procedure is relevant to my problem? and if flashing it would be a potential fix?

I would usually just take the risk and check but because i'm so new here I don't have the access privileges yet.
This looks to be the best place to start though.

Youve got nothing to lose and the chances are it should work.Follow Kremmens guide on page one.Tiz an excellent guide.

Will this cable work with a laptop as i do not have a tower and does anyone have a link to this cable thats required for the flashing process.

Oh sorry and wheres the nearest place i could get one. if anyone knows.. thanks for the help everyone.

Answers in posts above ref adaptor and cable type----available on e-bay and amazon, but it's better to use a pc with xp than a laptop as many people are struggling with laptop flashing [could get arrested:whistling:]
