Oh sorry and wheres the nearest place i could get one. if anyone knows.. thanks for the help everyone.

I haven't tried this myself (yet), but other members say that USB to serial adapters that use the prolific PL2303HXD rev D chipset work OK, such as this one:-

Prolific PL2303HXD USB to RS232 Serial Cable 9 Pin Male for Win 7 8 - Apple Mac | eBay

You will also need a null modem cable such as this one:-

NULL MODEM CONNECTOR CONNECTION CABLE 9 PIN 1.8 METER FEMALE TO FEMALE | eBay

As the reaper says, it's always best to try and beg, steal or borrow a pc with an onboard 9 pin RS232 serial port. This will ensure that you have the best chance of flashing, as it removes the extra layer of uncertainty by having to run the drivers for the USB to serial adapter.

You want eromupgrade tool which you can get via google, skybox.cc, techkings download section etc etc
Best is 2.0.0c [version 1.0.0.4] which is good for xp.

need a bit advice please i have a f3s when i switch it on i get no picture at all the front display lights up as normal even the channel numbers but just no picture would the rs232 help or is the box broke thanks for any help

How long does the flashing process take? I can't see any indicator that it is actually working until I hit cancel and it said "are you sure you want to cancel download in progress?"
It is taking ages.
The first couple of attempts I got an STB error. But I switched ports around and kept trying, and now it might be flashing it might not be?
Does it take seconds? minutes? hours? days????
At what point do I think - this isnt working?

Stay with com1---if eromupgrade accepts the file and the next part[download and burn] then process is over ib about 7mins.
You may have to keep searching fpr the right file.

Well Well Well

After many different tries and reading this thread up to about page 17 , I tried the erom upgrade 8mb flash programme instead. And I finally saw what happens next. I selected the right port and I got a progress meter. It went all the way to 100% and then it burned to 100% too!!!

Absolutely giddy I was. My box restarted and got to the No Ch sign. Fair enough I thought, but lets plug it in anyway. All started correctly. My box is genuine and I know how to flash and recover from stuck on "Load".
I then added the Sat list from AJ and my box bricked again. It was after updating with this list that my box bricked in the first place. So I saw the issue.
Flashed again as I am getting used to this. Formatted the USB and downloaded the latest 16/8/14 sat list from AJ. Uploaded that new list on the new formatted USB and yet again on restart it is bricked!!!!
So I am flashing again for the 4th time in an hour and wondering how to stop this from happening??

I wasn't getting any options to search or scan. Zip.
Used a better quality USB (Kingston) old one but a good un. Much better than the cheap chit I got from work for "free". Nasty is why its free.
I have channels now and just added my N Line back in. Back to where I was a couple of weeks ago.
Not sure how I feel about this F5S. Very fickle indeed. Still might look at a better box if this thing keeps acting the goat.

Cheers for all the replies and patience.:binoculars:

Help !

Going to have to reflash my F5s and assuming it will remove my "gift" I backed up my data a while back but on checkin the ccam.cfg file it's empty. There is however a newcamd file with what looks like very similar data in it. Is this the same thing and how do I reinstall it after a reflash ? Cheers in advance
