Skyboxf5s

I need to get a rs232 cable and try the flash software
What have i got to loose......

Would it not be cheaper to buy these two if you need RS232 -> USB?

2 metre Lead Serial Null Modem Cable DB9 Female - DB9F = £1.78

USB 2.0 to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter/Converter = £3.32

Total = £5.10

Have you tried that adapter yourself? If so, did it work?

The reason I asked 16dibbins what adapter he used, is because a lot of members have had no luck with other adapters. They are very "hit & miss". At least we know of an adapter that definitely works.

Ah ok, I haven't tried the adapter, no. I'm considering picking one up to try though (Even though I don't need USB). If I do, I'll report back here with my results.

I got STB memory error when trying to upgrade. Downloaded the upgrade tool from skybox.cc, upgrade went fine. thnx

The 15 pin port is a VGA graphics port. If you cannot borrow a pc with a built-in 9 pin serial port, then your only other option is a USB to serial adapter.

16dibbins provided a link to one that worked for him a few posts ago. Looking on Ebay there are a couple of cheaper ones that use the same chipset:-

Prolific PL-2303 HXD USB to RS-232 Serial Adaptor Compatible with Windows 8 7 UK | eBay

You could try a cheap adapter, but many members have trouble with getting them to work.

You will also need a null modem cable like this one:-

Hi
I followed the tutorial I keep getting Set stb memory error, I have a f5s skybox stuck on loading any help would be appreciated. I download 5 of the latest firmwares from sky.cc as the file eromclient kept coming up wrong file. At the end of the process I get the memory error. I just tried all the firmware available for the f5s on sky.cc keep getting stb memory error using usb connection. Its picking the box up as my computer bleeps when I connect the box to the computer.

Just to add the box loads all the way to 100 then it starts again.

Okay found problem my diode lead was shorting so this caused the issue of reloading constantly. Now have to reload everything on box.
So if any of you have the same issue check your diode lead if your using one.

I've had a nightmare trying to reflash a Libertview/Skybox F5S (not a clone). Tried all sorts of power on things using instructions off page 1. But finally the solution was to use the erom_upgrade_8Mflash tool rather than the Upgrade_PVR800 HD Tool. Worked first time this way using same (new) firmware from their site. Used a Prolific USB to serial with null modem lead as I don't have built in serial.

The link off this site to download it wasn't working but I got it elsewhere, just google: erom_upgrade_8Mflash download and you should find it pretty easy. I can't post links as haven't posted enough on here :-(

Make sure you don't download the iLivid rubbish, use the smaller download button at the bottom NOT the BIG one or you'll end up installing all kinds of cr4p.

Hallelujah. Thought I'd be forking out for a new box, I'd only updated my mates channel list and it had the feint 8/stuck on Load issue.

Hope this helps someone else out the same situation.
