Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

can you use a usb to serial cable to do this I have that plugged into null modem cable but keep getting synchronizing stbs please reset target am I doing something wrong or is it the cable

when it says synchronizing stbs please reset target then just plug power in -- as thats what its looking for

I have turned the power and it just says stb memory error

ok so in the pull down menu choose dump and hopefully will clear memory then use the other file to flash

I tried dumping the memory and still get the same error when I click on dump do I just press next or do I still go to browse and save the file somewhere thanks for all your help so far

This is an alternative firmware upgrade for the skybox F5, if like me, running official firmware you get file mismatch error. You may find that this is the correct firmware for you box.

yes save it on the desktop as a dump. if u still get the error after loading flash try leaving it with the error for 5 - 10 mins and see if it restarts the loading -- mine was a bit slow

keep trying u will eventualy get there

Apologies I read the thread properly and downloaded the other file......................I've made progress but now I'm getting the message

well its telling u what the fault is. its the wrong port selected -- firewall or antivirus blocking the port or your lead nothing else if its saying opening serial port failed. common port for serial is 1 or 2 u can go to system manager and check first

I have tried everything but cant get it to reboot. I have various backup filers that I have made over time tried them all but keep getting memory errors, any help would be appreciated

I cant I did see some think that said you could use I usb and restart the box with a file but cant find it know as it would not let me log in can some one re post it for me thanks colin

I have this problem also. After scoring a null-modem cable, it seems that my computer does not have a serial port, so the older/redundant computer will now be sprung back to life. It may be able to be revived, so we will see. We will let you know how it goes, as when the F5 Skybox was working it was OK to use, much better than the earlier version.

Hey guys, just a quick question, because my computer does not have a rs232 port i'm gussing the usb ones are bad with compatibility, if i can't find an old computer, will buying a pci card do the trick?

Hi guys, i have done the flash through the null modem cable and using the scoobysnack.abs because previously the box was stuck on load after doing it the box goes from one to i think 97 and then goes back to 1 in like a loop. So, PLEASE could someone help me put by sending me the links to how I can sort this out. Also, if i use that eromclient.abs it says wrong file please could some one help me much appreciated.

my skybox f3 has frozen and am told it has 'bricked' ?...I have searched a few forums and was impressed the way this thread explained things step by step. I have just returned from buying leads to connect the box to my laptop , but cannot download the link as I don't have the authority ?...please help
