Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

Hi

I believe I've fixed my box as it comes back onto the menus but it says there's no channels and I can't click onto single satellite search.

Any Help?

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I have not read through all 66 pages of this thread so apologies if I'm repeating something already said.

I tried this tutorial after bricking my F5S with a corrupted channel list from AJSat and it worked a treat for me...

I bought this cable on ebay "USB to Serial Null Modem Cable" for £8.75. It's a USB Prolific adapter and RS232 cable. I just plugged it in, let Windows 7 find the drivers and followed the instructions in this tutorial to the letter.

Very comprehensive and great save, I tip my hat to you OP.

Thanks a bundle...

Hi

I have a Skybox F5 which is totally dead no power no lights etc.

Ive managed to connect it using a null modem cable, i get the synchronizing STB's and the done message however after a few seconds i get the "Set STB memory error, click back to try again".

can anyone help with this? Apologies if this has been resolved in one of the previous 66 pages i did try and do a search but couldn't find a possible solution.

Many thanks in advance.

Make sure that you are using the right Erom Upgrade Tool for your box.

The correct one can be downloaded from skybox.cc.

Fantastic thread just joined today and used the comprehensive instructions to fix my box, total lifesavers everyone who has contributed to it.:butkiss:

Hi Guys , many thnaks for the info on skybox F3 dead firmware

---------- Post Merged at 09:50 AM ----------

If you never see any display on your F3 sometimes it doesn't mean the firmware is bad but maybe due to bad power supply..
How to identify if the supply is bad..
At the back of the board there is a female RCA connector that has a 12v label on it..
Just measure it and it should read 12v but if there is no voltage on it or the voltage is
far more than 12v the power supply should be dead
Before trying to dismantling the box make sure the main input is disconnected.
At the supply just inspect the electrolytic capacitor. Usually if the mosfet SVF2N60F
is bad the voltage on the RCA female connector will be around 22v.
So the capacitor should be swollen. refer image below..
Replace this kind of capacitor.
then try to replace the mosfet SVF2N60F. And if you cant find it then you can use this substitute FQP6N60C. Same package and pinout..
sorry cant post any image since i just registered today..

sorry not sure if I am on the correct section but I have a skybox f3 which doesn't seem to want to play was fine until I did my upgrade via usb any help appreciated
