I opened up the box, and there was a burnt ic chip inside, it looks like it will never work again,

You are so right---but I did warn you that box would most probably be non-repairable with the symptoms you gave.
You can use old boxes as spares if you are adept at soldering but usually such repairs don't last as the fault lies not in the chip but elsewhere which causes the burn out.
Time to submit and move on I'm afraid.

Hey,
Trying to unbrick my Openbox V8S.
I get so far and then can't go any further.
I get to this stage


It just stays at that and doesn't seem to go to the next screen where it actually starts to download it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if any one can help me?
I have a old Skybox f3 and after updating the channels is now stuck on a reboot loop, so i can't connect to it over ethernet!
Tried to reset it over RS232 and it seems to be doing all the right "noises", I get:
Synchronising STB - Done
Check serial [port status - Done
But then i get
Sending address command failed


Can't work it out it doesn't seem to matter what image i try it always seems to give me the same result!
Any Ideas
