Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

i have a problem with a skybox f3 when i try and load the files it comes up with wrong file tried a few but no luck :anyonethere:

re flash skybox f5s

im new to all this, going to try and reflash my skybox f5s tonight , had nothing but problems with these boxes .

You should have no problems if flashed correctly with correct firmware and set up as laid out in guide.
These boxes are so easy to use and maintain if you follow the info---and there's lots of that.
Just remember, if not sure of something, ask. We are here to help.
Reaper.

Thanks

You will need a 9 pin female to female RS232 Null Modem Cable. If you order one from Ebay, it's best if the pin numbering is shown in the listing to ensure it's the correct type. As long as pin 2 - 3, 3 - 2, & 5 - 5 are connected, then it's OK. Only these 3 wires are used on Openboxes & Skyboxes. The other connections do not matter.

NOTE:- A "straight-through" serial cable looks the same but is wired differently to a null modem cable.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I cant download the PVR 800 tool, do I have to have a certain amount of posts first?
Does a reply count as a post, sorry I'm a noob on Forums

I've tried almost everything on this forum but since i got the stb memory error i cant get very far.
...
Can someone post a link to where i can download it please :)

I have an Openbox F5S.
I have got the RS232 cable and the STB EROM flashing program.
No matter what I try, it always gives the message 'Set stb memory error'

Pretty stumped.

I think the box may be an original and have had it for 2 months.

Anyone got any tips or suggested files I can download that may work?

Giving it a bash now Reaper, thanks for the quick response.

Try the file above you.
Reaper.
Same issue unfortunately.
I plug the USB/RS232 in to my PC, run the flash program and select the file and click next.
It says synchronizing STBs please reset target.
I then plug the power into the box for a few seconds (Says 'Done' at this point') and then unplug and then it says 'set stb memory error, click back to try again'

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Also just tried this one doing the same procedure but the same message:-
F3S_F5S_141204058D.abs

Is there a specific length of time that I need to plug the box in before unplugging it again?

When you get the message "Done", it doesn't mean that the flash has finished, it means that the pc has connected to the box. Leave the power cord connected to the box to enable the firmware to flash your box. It will take a few minutes.

You should see progress bars to tell you how the flashing is going.

Perhaps the tut could do with more screen shots. I'll add them when I have time.

This is what I'm doing running the Erom upgrade browsing for sb.abs then ticking boot loader press next then it says synchronising stbs please reset target so I plug it in and it does nothing I've left it for hours and nothing if I take the power cable out I get done then put it back in and I get the stb error [emoji45]
