Its pretty amazing how repetitive this thread has become... I arrived here because I was in EXACTLY the same position, with TWO F5 boxes, one stuck on LOAD and one with the dim led/"8" symptoms...

Now without trying to blow my own trumpet, I'm pretty tech-savvy, but I was almost smashing up my boxes AND my computer 'cos I couldn't get past the "STB error" screen!

If Reaper offers you the chance to help, f**king take it! He resurrected BOTH boxes for me, and all he asked for was for you to cover any postage costs. (I'll admit, I paid him a little extra to buy himself a drink, but I was genuinely moved by the fact that he donated the extra money to an amazing charity!)

I know many people (myself included), would be dubious about sending their "golden goose" to somebody that seems to be "too good to be true", but like I said to the wife: "I'm gonna bin this f**king paperweight!", so sent the first box away, and less than 36 hours later, I had an email saying the box was up and running and on its way back! (He even explained all the technical/geeky stuff to me, and that deserved another 'hat tip'!). Second box was was sent away shortly after lol.

If it wasnt for this forum - or Reaper - I would be binning two boxes and spending money on another box. So I'm sorry for the lengthy post, but honestly: all the instructions you're looking for are in this thread... all the files you're looking for, are in this thread... but if you still fail (like me), and Reaper offers his help, what the f**k are you waiting for??? (I've just turned 40, and like the wife told me, "life's too short to be wondering about what the f*** a null modem cable is!!" lmfao

Having a bit of trouble with my F5S so hoping the info in this thread can help...

Got the 'dim 8' problem that many have, have a null modem cable (connected via usb converter doo dah - which was a pain to get set up, but its working now...) and have the EROM upgrader tool and the required F5S firmwares from skybox.cc. I can flash the ABS file no problem to the box using the upgrader, but unfortunately it still hasnt fixed the issue (boot loops about 3 times then sits on the dim 8).

Anyway off to have a read...
 
Find the F5s f/w dated Nov 2013---- install ----test.
If it still loopsm locate a replacement plug and lead----12V DC 2/3Amps then re-install f/w and test again.
If it works then install latest f/w. Do not use a channel list until box settles back into routine.

Thanks Reaper. That is what I have done btw (install the Nov13 firmware), still boot loops and settles on 8. I'll see if I can source an other cable and try with that (though if it detects the device and downloads and flashes the firmware is that not indication enough taht the cable is working?)
 
No----the RS232 cable set up is fine but it's the box's PSU that plays around---I did two boxes yesterday with same fault but when I attached the new PSU [plug and lead] then all went smoothly.
Also these boxes don't like windows 7 or laptops, the original erom upgrade was tasked for XP using a serial port.

Hello friends Techkings, I am a new member of this forum, a question: I have a F4s skybox, when upgrading, in his display load 93 and then shows E001. In the electronic board, comes the description of the manufacturer name "Artpo" serial number o: SBHDF4CA131002253 series, this is a mark of a original decoder or skybox clone? What sofware to use for resuscitation? .Help me please!
 
Can anyone help channels are scrambled believe it may be server i was on i have rebooted exct has been off for the last 3 days

hi guys! i am new to the forum and so have i have found very interesting and amazing reads on here, I must say all of you techs out there are doing a great job. I am still in learning phase and have a dead skyboxF5 at hand and trying to recover it. I have read this thread thoroughly but am unable to download the software required. I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me with it. I have registeredmy account and everything so this is my first post on here. :)
