Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

looking for some help with slybox f5, its got a dim red light on the display, while trying to re flash getting the stb memory error message

have you tried re-flash using a null modem cable?? try read the first post ;)

Yes mate re flashed a f5s the other day , struggling with this f5 thou!

I'm trying to follow the instructions, but I keep getting an error. It doesn't seem to recognise the null cable and usb it says

Sychronising STB's...

Please reset target!

Opening Serial Port is failed.

Click "Back" to try again


Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I have run the disc that came with the cable and USB adapter.

Change the com port mate my PC is com port 3 using the usb on front

I'e tried all 3 USB ports. Should I maybe try another laptop?

There should be more than three in the drop dwn box try all until it passes tha stage

Okay, I had a few issues with firmware, but in all it took me twenty minutes to sort four bricked boxes. Excellent thread, thank you very much!

Not only did he revive my F5 which was stuck on "Load", but I also had another F5 which was red light/Dim "8" symptom, and I've just my email, and he's resurrected that one too!!

I've actually nipped in during work (naughty), to tell the wife, and to post this lol.

Okay, I have another box I am struggling with. It is an F5S, I don't know if it is gen or cloned. I have tried the following upgrades and I am still gettig the stb memory error:
SKYBOX F5S_140326.abs
SKYBOX_F3S_F5S_3601HD_CMT_14041006DA.abs
SKYBOX_F3S_F5S_3601HD_CMT_14012205A6.abs

Any ideas? Am I using the wrong upgrade?

Try the sb.abs firmware to start then the nov 2013 file and finally the latest.
I presume you have the dim 8 problem.
