They could just change the name, same product but call it a flickstick.
If firesticks were wiped out tomorrow it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference, as you say, there's dozens of devices can do the same thing, along with millions of android tellies.
 
On the plus side, if IPTV stops working on Firesticks then users will be forced to use a product with less bloat and adverts :tearsofjoy:

if an amazon OS swap that makes them unusable for iptv nobody will be thinking sod it , i'll go back to sky or virgin rather than part with £30 for a cheap android box to replace it with.

i did mention a few years back the possibility of amazon devices being locked down just like the old now tv boxes were when they stopped allowing sideloading.

Quite right even if ypu bought a top spec box you would have your money back in 4 months based on sky prices

I quite like some of the bloat! Makes the UI a bit interesting, doesn't seem to be slowing my Shield down.
Adverts a bit different but Amazon are following everybody else with this, just hope my supplier doesn't start adding them!

As for the sales of firesticks i read somewhere that Amazon make them at a near loss and all revenue generated for developement come's from all said bloat ware and other corparation's licence fees to use their platform.

It's the same with playstation and xbox etc. The device is basically sold at cost Price because they know that once in the house they can upsell services at a higher margin to make more money, rather than sell the device at a dearer price and deter people from buying in the first place
 
I wonder how many firestick or alternative device holders stream illegally. Must be hundreds of thousands worldwide. Unless providers can be located and completely
wiped out I think the hobby will continue. lots of footwork for door to door knockers and many many court cases. I feel sure it will be only the big fish being targeted and others will pop up as one closes down. We may have to go underground or into the dark.
 
The Courts can't cope with the amount of Criminal cases, the prisons are overflowing, and the police don't have enough resources to do basic police duties, so i doubt very much the Authorities are gonna put much effort into knocking on the door of a bloke watching football!
Time will tell but these stories are rolled out year on year and you never hear of mass prosecutions!
 
Cant wait for the knock and talk with these guys 🤣 mind you still waiting for a knock and F... o.. talk with TV licencing salesmen/ enforcement officers/ goons 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
 
the opinion from those at the top is that the only way it will be stopped is by leaning on data centres to stop them allowing servers to route through or from them.

in all honesty it makes sense, its pointless hitting the little man, it will do nothing.
