Hi, I am a newbie on this forum and have managed to revive a bricked Skybox F5 with instructions from here.Thanks to everyone who have posted and made the process simple.
 
My box just turned off last night and now has no power even with diff adapter cable any 1 no the right firmware as been looking all day and nothing happened

Which model do you have?

Loading to 97 & then looping is a common fault when you flash a clone box with genuine firmware (or vice versa).

As you have tried firmware from skybox.cc then it looks like you have a clone box.

Further to my above post,I want to share my experience in reviving a dead Skybox F5.This was a friends box and following a power surge or lightning strike,it started playing up with not connecting to internet or just freezing and not responding to remote commands.I tried a factory reset and when I started a satellite search it stopped at 70% and just died.No lights at all.I tried a different power supply but no joy,so I knew the power supply was fine .Luckily for me I had a null modem cable from my Dreambox days.Also my sons Dell D430 came with a port replicator which had a R232 port. If you are using the Usb to R232 adapter,make sure its compatible with your version of Windows.I believe ones for Win 7 are different and will only work on 32bit machines. I used the upgrade tool from this forum and flashed it with a firmware from the Skybox cc site. It went fine but would not go past the L097 loop, so further reading suggested a wrong firmware. I then downloaded the F5 firmware from hddvbsw.com and that worked perfectly. the box is now sorted,connects to the internet without problems.If you can't get it to work first time,try different combinations.There is nothing to lose as the box is bricked anyway and trying different firmwares is not going to harm it anymore.I hope this helps someone.

Scroll down and download the correct one for your box (assuming your box is a clone)
 
When you used the other firmware,you had a wrong file message,so I think you might have a clone,same as mine.as mentioned in my thread,try different firmwares till you find one that works.Go back to older firmwares as well.Try the firmware from yojiatech.com,some people have reflashed from there as well.

You need to post once and then wait 30 miins to be able to download .If you're still having problems,download from the sites I have mentioned in my post.

From what other members have posted, not all converters will work.

Converters using the Prolific PL2303HXD rev.D chipset have been known to work such as this one:-

hi if anyonbe can please help i have got to the please reset target screen and got to where it says done after that i can see no activity after about 10 minutes and the is still a red light and number 8 on my skybox f5s.
 
i spend 10 hours and finally i resolved stb memory error i have skybox f5s clone and this tool works for me skybox.cc/downinfo.asp?id=59
when i click next on tool i turned on power adapter and downloading start :)
