yes backdoor.key, you don't need the .txt file but you also need the .bin file

It's won't change where it says upgrade file stuck on v8uhd_flash.bin

Try an older firmware first then update to the latest one. Make sure USB is formatted to fat32 or NTFS

I will have a go when I get home cause I've also got a v8x and it shows all the folders on the usb stick

To upgrade the mars v8uhd firmware from the original v8uhd firmware, you need to copy the backdoor.key and mars v8uhd.bin firmware files into the usb root directory.
2.then enter the "upgrade by usb" menu, select the upgrade mode as 'All code', to upgrade.

But assume this is what you did

Possibly a corrupt bin , maybe try and older fw as suggested. Good luck

Ask your neighbours if they have had anything working on it ?

Otherwise it is hard to sat it could be a skyq setup or just bog stock hd setup.

It should do get him to ask a neighbour if they have a sky box working via the communal dish. Viarks can get various sats but he will only get 28e if in the uk.

Yes that should do it.

F type Fly-lead get it for couple quid is all you'll need and Ethernet cable or worst case scenario WIFI Dongle which will only support 2.4GHZ
even worse case scenario you'll FOR SURE get UK Freesat ..Good luck : )
