Broadband Retentions leaving Virgin question - Price increase

To a certain point I think it's better the devil you know, I have left VM a couple of times over the years and always end up coming back to them. Their router is a pile of carp, their call centres don't like answering calls but, for me anyway, the actual broadband service has been top notch, very stable and have rarely had an issue unless there has been planned mainenance. Also most other providers realy on BT cables, and we've never got the speed they tell us we will get.

If you are thinking of telling them where to go, then make sure you have checked other providers first so you can tell virgin you're going to joe bloggs internet as he if offering 50mb for £5 or whatever (please note this is an example and Joe is no longer doing 50mb for £5) , the chances are VM will try to match the price or get close to it for their 100mb.
Where exact same bud can’t have vm in my area too ghetto for that but completely understand with bt cables every provider says we can get upto 80+mbps but when it comes to it our line can only handle 37mbps maximum which is P*SS take 🤣🤣🤣

Damn just checked my account and settings been altered again ffs sneaky barstewards 😤😤😤 must be the heavy usage or summert 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So guys don’t get caught out like I did. I signed up for another 18 Months for £18.50 for 200Mb. The guy on the phone said I have a 18 month discount. Here’s the catch the 18th month discount applies from my old contract I took out in January 2021. The way he worded on the phone is I have a 18 Month discount which I do he’s not lying but that 18 Month contract is rolling on from January 2021. So you’ve guessed it even though I’m in a 18 Month contract my fancy discount is due to expire in 6 Months (August 2022) and my £18.50 jumps up to over £40 for the remainder of my contract.

Check your contracts people after you confirm. Shady wording on the phone. Make sure your discounts aren’t rolling from your old contract and set to expire sometime during your new contract.

I’m now in my cooling off period of 30 days and waiting for retentions.

Wow the bloody so and sos!!

I hope this ain't some now shady tactic from these as I had full 18 months discount last year even though had many months left of discount before taking the new contract.

What you gonna do now? You gona leave them if they won't budge on the extra you got to pay for rest of your contract?

They are getting worse mate, I have just been in touch with them, I pay £87 a month and they are putting it up by £5.75 on 01 March, I am in a contract until June but, because THEY have changed my contract I can change or leave anytime up until the 25th Feb without penalties. So I thought I would try and get a better deal or at least a new customer price, my wife has an O2 contract and I just have a payg Smarty Sim so I would have been open to a £12 O2 SIM added to get a better deal. What did they offer me...................................a £4 discount and promised not to increase my payments by the £5.75 until the end of my current contract. And no doubt I would have been tied into another 18 month contract with the above mentioned discounts only valid for about 4 months.

I too am now waiting for Customer Relation/Retentions :rage:

Waiting for retentions now. The lady on the phone said she can do me a new contract but at £27. I’ll play the waiting game and worse case scenario they don’t I’ll grab something like this once cancelled. Virgin Media Ultrafast 108mb Fibre Broadband £24pm 18m + £39 cashback + £100 Amazon voucher (New Customers) via Quidco £432 @ Virgin Media - hotukdeals

That’s expensive mate I take it you pay for a TV package? £4 discount is a joke. I swear I read somewhere that a legislation has now been passed that existing customers should now be offered same price as new customers on contracts now unless I dreamt it!

For anyone else signing new contracts. Just some advice only takes 1 minute log into your account and check your contract fully can save you the hassle 6 months down the line when the discount you thought you got magically expires and your stuck paying high prices for the remaining duration of your contract.

Taken from the FCA website:

The FCA has implemented a package of remedies to improve competition and protect home and motor insurance customers from loyalty penalties. This includes new rules so that renewal quotes for home and motor insurance consumers are not more expensive than they would be for new customers.

Ah, that might of be what I heard! They should do this across the board!

I say not just VM but all types of companies selling you all types of products and services are scummy and dirt bags who only care about greed even in this pandemic.

Am hesitant now with what's been said with not getting full discount for 18 month new contract.

Gona cancel and see what happens and will double check if indeed loyalty discount will only be for few months and not 18 months.
