Guide A guide to the best boxes for IPTV 2021

Love to know any more info on your setup if you don’t mind, we just dumped Virgin & looking for a good PVR TV box, mostly for mainstream TV stuff in HD/4k , we have on demand stuff via our smart TV. But overwhelmed with so much choice for a freeview/freesat box! I’ve read so many of them have some serious issues. I have a Sky dish with a quad LNB so I thought a decent sat box might be the way to go but seems Android streaming boxes are super popular so wondering is Satellite still a good choice... I’ve been looking at VU+ 4k Se , with Openvix, dunno if I need duo or solo. I tried IPTV once but it was hopeless, love to get a decent setup but unsure if this is the right thing or not. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
If you want HD quality no delay, take a look at the Forever satellite boxes. They are another option to IPTV if UK tv is your priority.

Good place to start is this thread probably the last 50 pages.

Viark - VIARK TYPE BOXES

Dont be daunted they are easy to setup.

Top spec E2 boxes if used on satellite and Iptv are by a long mile superior to any android device. Only thing i am not a fan of is kodi the android win hands down on that.
My thoughts exactly , I have had at least 5 or 6 E2 boxes and their downfall for me is kodi , granted I have never pushed the boat out and paid for a "high spec" box but the standard Zgemmas etc , Kodi is unusable on them . When that app that you could use for plex went years ago , I forget its name. It ruined E2 , for me . I have 4 or 5TB of my own movies . tv series , on a PC that I use as a server. I'd buy an E2 box tomorrow if I could be sure that kodi or plex could be installed and was usable on it. Don't think it will ever happen so am stuck with android.
EDIT : Dreamplex , that was it back in the day.

Android boxes are perfectly fine. You just need one with tv android installed ideally.

Most boxes run mobile android probably not the best idea.

I agree e2 if you like the sky look you can't beat the skins on enigma.

I have a vu+duo 4k which I love and for me beats android hands down. I also have a gigablue Uhd Ue4K and that is also up there for quality. It all depends what you want to spend but my last Vu duo2 gave me many years of issue free viewing. Enigma 2 boxes are far better than android for customizing pretty much everything tbh.At the moment I have Xtream Editor for my IPTV on my Duo4k and I have been trying Jedi Maker Xtream on my Gigablue which I quite like. You could also use e2m3u2bouquet (suls plugin) which is another good program you can use on E2 so you have plenty of choices. I do use the satellite on both boxes just for the freeview.
When getting a supplier for IPTV it is best to get one that gives you everything you need, not one that just gives you an e-mail address a you give him a code as when you have issues it can be a pain waiting around for an e-mail. Get one that has a dedicated support forum. If you went for xtream Editor get one that gives you a panel so you can see your sub and can renew it from there, also you can sort your channel the way you want them, adding or removing the ones you don't want. They should also give you the m3u details etc so if you want to try other program like Jedi maker or Suls plugin it makes it very easy to do. . Lastly I find the quality of my IPTV as good as it has ever been and I am very happy with it. Sure you will get issues at times but get a good supplier who sorts the problems out and and you will never look back.
Techkings was my starting point into the world of satellite and then IPTV and the people here know what they are doing so pretty much anything you need to know you will find the answer here. Good Luck

I see a lot of people that say Kodi won't work on E2 but I run Kodi on both my boxes and don't have any issues. With kodi you need to keep it simple so I don;t use builds as most builds are just bloated with lots of plugins that give you exactly the same things. I Just use 3 Addons and thats it. Some dependencies may need updating on some boxes so it depends what box you have as to how well it will run and . Lastly I find the quality of my IPTV as good as it has ever been and I am very happy with it. Kodi isn't a patch on enigma 2 like it is on an android OS

Just for Anyone that wants to know, I have installed Kodi 20 from the feeds on a Gigablue uhd ue 4k with a 1tb hdd fitted running Open ATV 7.2. When you first Install kodi it asks if you want to install various addons but don't install any of them. I am using the Aeon Nox Silvo skin and that works fine. The main addon I use is The Crew, which I installed from the Crew Repo (https://team-crew.github.io). I don't know why but I was told to only run Kodi when watching a satellite channel and not an Iptv channel. It runs just as it does on my android box and I don't have any issues with it. I can ff,rw pause skip no problem. It also finds plenty of sources for the movies. I can also exit Kodi back to tv and not a single issue. I did try it on my old vu+ duo 2 box some time ago and it never worked and just crashed the box everytime but on the Gigablue no problem.it works fine. It obviously needs a quick box with plenty of memory and most movies are H264 now so running it on older boxes is a definite NO.I have not tried many addons as I find The Crew has all I need but I also have Homelander and The Promise addon which also work. That is my experience with Kodi on E2.

The guys who run and maintain the PurE2 images have it setup like Kodi have you tried that build.

No,tbh never tried it,used open Vix years ago but since then I just like my setup with ATV but I will install it to one of my free boot slots and give it a look. Cheers

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the time taken to reply, gosh so much to learn, I don’t mind spending the money on a good system, I’m not sold on a streaming box for basic TV & have a dish so the VU boxes look great, however I was concerned though the last news or updates on the VUplus.com was 2018 , I presume more people are getting Android boxes & not using dishes, Is that right? Best thing I think next is to try one , I’ll get a VU4k box, are they ok to get off EBay I’ve seen quite a few?
On the Android note can you record with an IPTV box? I’ll get a separate Android box for that, I’m not a football fan or watch film channels etc but some of the Sly channels would be nice, I presume I can’t get those on the sat box?
Sorry so many questions, I am reading so many posts & trying to learn it all.

If you watch mostly Freesat then you'd be better off with a sat box, which will run IPTV too but not as well as an Android device

You can get premium sky channels via satellite but you'd need a motorised dish.
A new system has just been introduced where you don't need motorised dish but it's new and no one knows yet whether it will last, personally I don't think it will.

You can record IPTV on a satellite box, not really on an Android device, but recording IPTV is haphazard at best, most IPTV providers offer 7 day catch up so you can scroll back and watch anything that's been on in the past week

A lot of people these days go for Android and they are fine for IPTV. I just prefer E2 boxes and Vu are up there for quality but it is a lot of money compared to android.I dont record on mine but you do get catch up on a lot of channels with IPTV so I never found the need. You also get VOD movies which give you lots of movies and TV shows. E2 boxes are just a bit of a learning curve but fine when you get to grips with it. In my opinion The quality of IPTV is always down to the supplier and not the box you use and my IPTV on my E2 boxes is pretty much issue free . My Gigablue UHD UE 4K is a good fast box and cheaper than the VU so that is a cheaper option. I have setup lots of Zgemma H9 and H11 E2 boxes and they are much cheaper. If you went for E2 maybe get a cheaper box to start and just see how you like it. I can only comment on the boxes I have but the choice is yours. Cheers

You can record on android will depend on device. The lower end ones may struggle but certinaly should be no issues with

Buzz
Formuler
Sheild

I’m looking for a new Android box but want to spend under a hundred quid really.
I’ve already got a formuler z11 which I’m very happy with, but they’re not the cheapest box in the world and I’ve got several firesticks (not really a fan of the eco system) and a VU solo SE box but I’d like something along the lines of the formuler but at a cheaper price.
Currently considering a Mecool KM7 or the Amiko A9 Green but are there any other options you chaps might recommend?

Cheers. 👍🏻

Have a look at the buzztv range pretty similar to formuler range but like with all devices it depends on if just for iptv alone or for games plus other apps
