Recover Dead Skybox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my F3 box as it's stuck on load.
I have bought 1 of those cables from ebay.
I went to the skybox.cc website found F3 and downloaded the top download and opened it with winrar.
I then extracted it onto my desktop but the only file in the folder is a file called - SKYBOX F5 F3 M3_3601HD_CMT_130327079B.abs
Am I doing this wrong?

The file is correct--you load using the erom upgrade tool and Rs232 null modem cable.

I've got an f3 stuck on load. Even after using the erom upgrade, it is still stuck on load. Is it done for?

Did the erom tool go from start to finish----what pc are you using---give some details.

yeah, all seemed to be fine until the box loaded. Done a few for my mates and family. No problems with my computer or cable, etc

Also, when i power of and then back on, the display is blank. I think this will be a door stop!

have tried flashing but stuck on synchronizing stbs.....

Depends on what box----F3/F3s/F5/F5s go to SkyBox | SkyBox
V5s/V6/V8/V8s/V8se----go to Downloads
For the F5s you can also use V5s firmware
Ensure you use correct erom upgrade tool for each model
For clone V8s go to OpenBox | OpenBox

how do I download file

This is an alternative firmware upgrade for the skybox F5, if like me, running official firmware you get file mismatch error. You may find that this is the correct firmware for you box.

They don't usually like USB convertor leads to connect the Null Modem to your computer.

Ideally, you need an old PC with an RS232 connection at the back.

it only says load and there's no led showing

Then you should just persevere as it can be revived.
Try all known files and follow the instructions thru out the thread.
