Ive got 1 ethernet from my router to my bedroom under 7m long (drilled some holes in bedroom floor ) can i use a ethernet splitter? to run openbox and my laptop ?

You can use an ethernet switch.

As Kremmen says use wired, I use an old router configured as a switch.
P.S. I checked my latency to a box in a bedroom, homeplug avg 4ms, wired directly >1ms, official wireless dongle with antenna avg 700+ms, HTH
