Google TV Streamer 4K

Seen a few posts in various forums about this device. Generally good reviews , although some saying the ONN pro beats it on price and performance. Looking at the specs , the google streamer should be the better.. with that discount it’s a good buy , thanks for posting.

I picked up a 2017 shield last week for £50, was overheating after a a couple of hours use. Opened it up cleaned fan and replaced thermal paste . Running sweet as a nut. So , using ChatGPT to compare 2017 shield with this new 4gb ram google streamer , STREAMING ONLY. The shield comes out on top , as long as you can find a reasonably priced unit. Am not going to post all the spec comparisons but here’s the conclusions.

  • New Google TV 4K Streamer (with 4GB RAM):
    • The Google TV 4K streamer is typically priced lower than the Nvidia Shield, making it a more affordable option for users who want a high-quality 4K streaming device with a simple interface and decent performance.
  • 2017 Nvidia Shield TV:
    • Generally more expensive due to its higher-end hardware, extra features, and superior streaming capabilities, especially for those who care about video quality, AI upscaling, and Dolby Vision support.

Conclusion:

  • New Google TV 4K Streamer (with 4GB RAM):
    • Best suited for users who want a simple, affordable, and reliable streaming device with 4K HDR and a user-friendly interface. It’s ideal for those who are more into media consumption and less into advanced features.
  • 2017 Nvidia Shield TV:
    • Best for those who prioritize superior picture quality, upscaling, and overall streaming performance. The Shield excels with its advanced AI upscaling and Dolby Vision support, making it the better option for cinephiles and those who care about the best possible viewing experience.
In short, if pure streaming and content discovery are your focus, the Google TV 4K Streamer is a great option, while the Nvidia Shield TV provides an edge in video quality, upscaling, and more advanced streaming . ‘

No need to upscale if you have decent direct streams.

It’s not only upscaling though is it. Decent smart TV’s will upscale anyway. Of course if we assume that ChatGPT conclusions are accurate. It’s saying that the processor in that 8yr old shield is superior to that of the brand new google streamer.
