Southport Nursery stabbing updates as one dead and others critically injured

A major incident has been declared after a stabbing involving a "number of casualties". Merseyside Police was called to Hart Street in Southport at around 11.50 am on Monday, July 29.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Southport following a major incident this morning, Monday 29 July. At around 11.50am, we were called to a property on Hart Street to reports of a stabbing.

"There are a number of reported casualties and more details will be confirmed when possible. Armed police have detained a male and seized a knife. He has been taken to a police station.

"Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident. There is no wider threat to the public."

Eyewitnesses have described the scene as a "major incident" with dozens of police at the scene. Two ECHO reporters and a photographer are at the scene.

Yes but the knife man was arrested at the scene, this 17 year old might be his relative

Police haven't said its a second arrest so not sure what's going on, I suppose we'll all find out eventually

People like this need more than the maximum punishment, 25 years isn't enough. Shouldn't see daylight again for as long as breaths. Absolute scum of the earth. Probably won't be named publicly due to his age but if you are old enough to take a life you are old enough to be named

They said at lunchtime that they'd arrested 'a man'
Then at 4-5 pm they were at a house in Banks, a 15 minute drive away.
Then they announced they'd arrested a seventeen year old boy.

You must have good sources not seeing any of that...man could be the 17 year old ...yes prob did go to his house to search it after he was arrested at scene..

We're hearing from the police and emergency services now.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy says it is with great sadness that two children have died.

She adds that nine others have been injured, and six are in critical condition.

Two adults are also in critical condition, she says.

I think you have to be 18 to receive a whole life sentence.
Not sure if that is at the time of the crime or when they are sentenced.
Not sure either how they convict someone who is found to be mental ill but culpability can be reduced depending on impairments and disorders.
To commit such a heinous crime on children they must have some sort of mental illness.

Every person in jail for violent crimes is mentally ill because no sane person would commit such atrocities. Hate the world we are In when people plead insanity to not be punished. Ridiculous
 
"If" he's 17 they'll likely not name him due to his age. Although he's already been named on twitter/X thousand of times as he's apparently known to the police.. I won't share it as I can't confirm how accurate it is.

There's also images on there of the children laid on their backs, bleeding after being attacked. It's horrendous.

Again the people taking pictures of dead and injured kids and posting it around are just as sick and twisted as the person who committed this crime. Rather than trying to help let's just video it for views
