Painting straight lines/ Cutting in

Regarding cutting in before rollering a room ?, what's a good decent brush?. I see video's of guys with big fat chunky arse brushes wizzing along, cutting in at warp factor 7 while my brushes resemble Ken Dodds head.

I've a Screwfix and Toolstation near me so easy pick up

Harris brushes from screwfix are superb proper professional and very reasonable.

I use the Hamilton range of brushes cutting in also.

I earned my living as a Painter and Decorator early in my working life and find Hamilton brushes are quality and not silly priced. Love there layoff brushes.

About 15 years ago I renovated 2 x 3 bed properties on my Jack Jones doing 90% of the work myself but the one job I basically cannot stand is decorating, I've tried to get along with it over the years but I detest it with a passion, I'd sooner unblock a drain with a toothpick.

After 2 years of badgering from the missus to decorate the living room & kitchen I finally went out and got a quote rather than attempt it myself. The quote was a donkey choking £800 probably right but,

due to the fact that I'm tighter than a sharks arse at a 100 fathom I have decided to try and rekindle my hatred for decorating and DIY it.

I always use tape and caulk to get a straight line.
Pull the tape back off itself rather than just pulling it off.

Well that was 2 days I'll never get back, only done the kitchen, I spent more time cleaning and prepping the grime Jesus wept ! then 3 coats to go from grey/blue to white.

Honestly, I've always said there ain't many jobs I wouldn't tackle on a house (age now permitting) but painting is the one those jobs that brings me close to tears

I mask up the light switches and bottom of baseboard but still cut in, just for more peace of mind that any splatters or slight mistakes can be taken off

I just undo switches and paint behind.

For 'cutting in' I use a brush with an angled head

Me too but sometimes when rolling I've hit it accidentally so better to do the tedious prep instead of cleaning 🤣

I find it a ball acke, the prepping the cleaning for 10 minutes of painting. Right so, what's the best way to clean rollers other than 40 gallon of cold water ?. I saw this gadget a motorised spinner machine job you stick them in it spins them at 900 mile an hour rinses cleans dries them in no time. No good to the once every 5 year painter like myself but if I was doing it for a living it would be a must

I use a painters tool to scrape the roller down.

Then a drill with a cutdown roller bar to spin the roller in a bucket of water, then spin it again in a empty bucket to shake off the water.
