Openbox V8S and surround/stereo sound

I am wondering if the openbox v8s is compatible with surround sound. I have it connected to my tv through hdmi but the sound only comes out of the front speakers. No bass sound or satellite speaker sounds.

Hi - I have a similar issue as when using the V8S it will not work with my sony soundbar.

I think that the only ways out of this is a scart lead converting to phono and audio jack. With that I should be able to have hdmi to the television and a jack socket in the back of the surround sound. Failing that it will be an hdmi converter. I should get the scart converter tomorrow. I'll post the result when it has arrived.

As far as I am aware it is compatible yes. Make sure the sound settings are set to surround, and make sure your tv is as well

My sony soundbar only has hdmi arc connection.
I purchased a hdmi switching box as this seems to work if I power on my tv and V8s box is not selected the soundbar will power on.

Then I can use the hdmi switching box to switch to V8s unit once tv is running with soundbar..sometimes I do get a soundbar connection failure, but only way I have managed to get it to work with the V8S.
My soundbar works fine with other devices connected to tv, so is disappointing it has issues with V8S.

Only sound settings I could find on V8S are :
Stereo
Mono
Left
Right

I have selected Stereo and then have 2 further options:
pdr(5402)
eng(5401)[Dolby D]

I have selected eng(5401)[Dolby D]

Doesn't seem to have made any difference for me ?

I think it could be lack of output power maybe, not sure, never tried on surround sound, will have a look tomorrow and see if i can find a solution

I can't even find any sound settings other than in TV system- audio out. Where I have BS out and LPCM out.

BS = Bitstream, LPCM = Linear PCM.
linear pcm if you want uncompressed audio. bitstream if you want regular Dolby digital.
I have tried both these options and don't seem to make any difference with my soundbar.

cheap boxes are no thrills boxes having no spdif or digital out fitted so no 5-1,earlier specs of previous boxes stated spdif but to keep costs down removed it.
