I live in a VM cable area and have 100MB Broadband with VM but no TV package. Do I need a TV sub with them to try one of the cable alternatives?

If i get the H5,2tc where is the best place to buy and will i be able to get all channels again as got openbox but most channels missing.
Also i know there is no guarantee but how long will channels last.
