Sky is rolling out a new white router, but don’t be fooled – this is a trap.

If they offer you a “free router upgrade,” refuse it immediately. These new routers are completely locked down, meaning you CANNOT disable Sky Shield. That gives them full control over what you can and can’t access online. Some services that block VPNs will make it even harder to bypass their restrictions.

Anyone got one of these & having issues ? Just recently it’s started taking around 10 mins for me to login to my service but once it finally logs in everything works. The options are still there to enable & disable shield & security settings but it makes no difference logs straight in using a VPN. I’m wondering if changing the DNS in the router config to googles will fix the login issue.

Yes they are blocking tv and some vpns but you can access nanny settings but I'm not 100% sure if that sorts it.

It’s not actually blocking it as it just takes around 10 mins to login but when it finally logs in everything works. All settings for security & shield are still there but even when all disabled it’s still the same but the router has been fine until recently so it looks like it’s had a firmware update.

I did look but there’s no option to change the DNS on these white routers. Anyway it wasn’t anything sinister as all I did was disable the IPv6 until recently it was fine so my guess is there have updated the router’s firmware as I know a friend that’s just had the same issue & everything was fine until recently. I’ve attached a pic of where I disabled it incase anyone else has a similar issue.

Had Sky Broadband installed 2 weeks ago, still the old black router, which is rubbish. Swapped out for a Deco router.

I'm with BT at the minute but going to change to Sky, this is the very reason I use my own router, TP Link.

Hope you dont mind me replying, With my Deco you can install a VPN using wireguard. Im in Ireland so im not sure if our Sky internet is the same but ive had no issues other than not being able to use a VOIP phone without the Sky router.

Which deco you got @neolxs ? I have a deco ,I don't think I can install a VPN on mine.

You can use your own router if your isp gives out the login details @mike123 . With Vodafone you go on there live chat. They gave me the logins. Not sure about sky.

Its the Deco BE9300 , I got it from Amazon UK as its currently on offer.

Tp link offer this setup for a Deco and wireguard with a VPN, not sure what models other than the BE9300 it works with.

Thanks, I tried to do on mine , but don't have the option in the app. I have deco p9 , it's a few years old now, not works ok tbf.
