If I recall correctly, kobo uses the epub format, so if you get any books in that format, yes you can add them to your kobold.
Kindle, historically we're all mobi type files, so if you were to get that type, you would have to convert them using the calibre app on your pc/laptop.
They do a mac OS version too calibre - Download calibre
If your Kobo has wifi maybe downloading ebooks in epub format might be an option.
