How to put Custom Firmware on Your PSP Console

Yes, i will agree with the charging suggestion.

I had to try multiple times myself, i dont know why, but it just refused to work, try changing the default trigger button from "L" to something else. Then ofcourse reformatting the memory stick and starting all over again, one of these tweaks will get your memory stick running within the next several attempts you may have to make.

Another thing, have you bought the memory stick from a reliable supplier?

Back when i was downgrading my PSP, i had ended up buying a fake memory stick on eBay, thinking i had hit a bargain with the price but later found it was a fake, as there "magicgate" text wasnt showing in the memory stick info on the PSP's interface.

Also, some would recommend using a pro-duo memory stick from 256MB to 2GB. I personally didnt find this a problem, it worked fine with my 4GB pro duo memory stick that I had later purchased from the store.

i have a 8GB mem card, its working fine, picks it up on the computer and psp. wheelo recommended it, will give it a few goes tomorrow and change the default L to sommat else

this amigo is struggling when putting the pandora battery in, nothing happens. just green light on, tried L UP X O and nothing, its getting frustrating now lol

just try formatting card again, making magic memory stick again, then try again.
did you have a smaller memory stick already?, if so copy contents to a folder on PC(it has your save data scores etc) then try use that.
it can often take several tries to get it to go to where you want it to go, just persevere, it will happen

ive formatted that memory card lol tried doing that memory card instead no luck :(

i'll just keep trying, on some youtube videos you dont need to press the trigger button for pandora battery

I never saw it done that way, but if that works for you, then excellent, I say just keep at it

If your PSP just stays on a black screen then you probably have a PSP Brite (PSP-3000)
-OR- one of the newer model PSP Slims (PSP-2000) that Pandora is not compatible with,
this means your PSP can't have custom firmware installed on it at the moment.

above from the PSPISO website. i keep getting the black screen nothing happens and the memory card lights dont even flash, i have firmware 6.00 on my psp. 2003 model. it should be simple as make mms insert pandora battery and voila menu appears.

Added after 6 minutes:

Psp Slim & Lites, that came with 4.01 - 4.05 Official Firmware or higher will most likely have
the "TA-088v3" motherboard. This means that the Psp will not be able to install custom
firmware.

right after alot of digging and searching and headbanging i have got it done but another way round WITHOUT the pandora battery.

You need to be on 6.30 Sony official firmware first. Update to 6.39 first, then place the "installer" and "launcher" from 6.39ME-5 LCFW in the 'GAME" folder and run the "installer" first. Follow on screen instructions and after it re-boots, run the "launcher" and it will re-boot into 6.39 LME-5. Every-time you turn on your PSP, just run the "launcher" and you will be on LCFW (6.39LME-5)

System Software: 6.39 LME-5 <<<< showing on my PSP now :) well at least the memory card was worth the money LOL

thank you wheelo. Oh it was frustrating, but this way was much simpler and does not have the risk of bricking your PSP if you follow the instructions step by step. Will be done within 5 minutes.

i also have a picture to show which PSP can be modified and which cant and how you can find out your version, motherboard, etc using PSPModules app.

my cfw is now 6.39-ME sommat along those lines lol

How to Identify your PSP Motherboard Model

This program is here for the people who don't know if their slim PSP can convert a battery or not. If you are not sure what motherboard your custom firmware PSP has you can use PSPIdent. PSPIdent can show you the motherboard model number, then you can look on the table above to find out if your PSP can convert a normal battery into a Pandora Battery (and back again)

There is also another software called PSPModuleChecker, once you download it, it needs to go in to the PSP/Game folder. The run it from your PSP which will then give you the MOTHERBOARD MODEL, match it with the image above to see if it is hackable or not etc etc

resurrecting this old thread! I found my old 2003 slim psp but it was missing the memory card. It has 6.20 PRO-B6 installed. I used to run iso's im sure years ago. Does anyone know what files i need on the memory stick to be able to play them?

I had a look mate but it doesn’t show you what files are needed on the PSP memory card. The links on it seem to be dead
