genuine/clone

I have a v8s box stuck on load, but can't tell if it is a clone or genuine. I have compared to the pdf document online, but still inconclusive. If i dump the image using erom tool, can i find out from that?

First try a different PSU--if no luck then assume your box is genuine and try the erom upgrade tool [ali3511]---latest firmware and null modem cable.---Now, if you get file mismatch then you have a clone and need the firmware located at OpenBox | OpenBox

Hi, with that erom it doesn't come up with "done" when i turn power on

That is the correct erom for the V8s
Try other firmware for box.
Patience is a virtue plus there is no guarantee that a box can be revived.
Are you using correct cable and have you checked what com port?

just tried earlier fw, still no joy. The erom works on my v8s, so either box is goosed or a clone?

ihave looked inside the box and compared to genuine and some of things indicate clone, like no frequency shield, but then the capacitors are black (like the genuineones) although they are supposed to be green on clones.

I presume the erom is the same for clones and genuine boxes?

Try a different laptop or PC .I had a similar problem with my laptop,but managed to flash on PC

Hi, not the pc, other boxes are fine on it. The box got stuck on load whilst changing channel, so it seems something has been fried on the pcb

Been intouch with an old pal off the forum & he reccomends your knowledge of the f5 box
Got no sound on my box tried all the expected issues
Could you help with latest firmware & guidance on install please

Press M/P on remote and when micro panel appears then locate the audio icon and adjust for sound.
On newer remotes just locate the audio button and adjust.
There is no updates for the F5 as they are outdated and superceded by F5s/V5s.

Been into mp on remote
On audio icon it only gives option of stereo / balance left right options
Does this mean theres no update for this box or is there another option installing further software

There is no updates etc for your box so option is ensure you have a copy of your line, then go menu--tools--factory reset. Go menu sat list and tick No15, press blue button on remote and do a single sat blind scan---after scan you can go to channel list and edit your channels--once you are happy then reinstall your line and hopefully all will be ok.

Done everything but put line back on
However tried the fta & still no joy. Not too worry as still run h2s
So just this minute binned it , been a great little box
