Firestick VPN Speed (Surfshark)

Hi,

I just switched from NordVPN to Surfshark a few days ago. I looked at most of the setup guides and picked the best setting I found from test (Auto Wireguard, UK-London, Killswitch etc).

My question is regarding the speeds, here is some results:

Desktop PC Wired -950 Mbps without VPN, 940 Mbps with Surfshark
Samsung Mobile - 300-500 Mbps without VPN, 250-300 Mbps with Surfshark

In my opinion these seem pretty good, however on my Firestick 4K (multiple around home) I get a drastic reduction in speed.

Firestick 4K - 300 Mbps without VPN, 50 Mbps with Surfshark (generally varies between 30-100)

I have tried different protocols (Wireguard, UDP/TCP), different countries/servers etc, but I dont get a big change (if anything Wireguard gives me better speeds). These tests were all done on the same country (server) to keep it generally consistant.

I don't think I can say Surfshark VPN is the issue unless its to do with the firestick android app (as it seems to work fine on my mobile (playstore apk) and pc (windows app).

Or is this because of the Firestick 4K WIFI/hardware capabilities in general? The only reason I am not blaming it 100% is that without the VPN I get a good 300 Mbps.

Does anyone have any advice or answers about this before I go down a rabbit hole lol. I did see something on another website that claimed "the processing power on the 4k firestick could be causing the app to run sluggish".

I know you generally only need 25 Mbps for 4K but it's just annoying me how every other device on Surfshark gives a decent output apart from the firesticks lol.

Thanks and all help appreciated

Surfshark on my fire stick works fine, no worries about buffering etc, using a UK server.

Thanks for the replies.

Been using it a few days and to be fair it hasn't buffered once, so thats the main thing. It would be nice to get 200+ Mbps but to be honest I dont think you ever really need more than 30 Mbps anyway.

SS gets my approval so far so lets hope it keeps up and doesn't drop out after 30 days (I've read things regarding it becoming bad after the trial period).

In terms of a device, I really want to replace my Firestick anyway. NVIDIA Shield Pro would be the obvious choice but I still feel if I buy one the 2nd will release lol. Looked at Google 4k TV Streamer and Formuler boxes but can't decide.
At least the FS is working for now.

For what little my 2 cents are worth, I had a Shield, tried a Google 4K streamer, now I have just a firestick 4K max with an ethernet adapter, if you are looking to switch just for IPTV the difference is minimal, I swapped purely as I have Now TV and the other 2 devices didn't support UHD Sky Sports, firestick does.

Appreciate that cheers,
Main reason I wanted the switch from Firestick was to go for a Google Android layout, thats why I looked at Chromecast 4k, then seen the new 4k Streamer has ethernet.
