Dogs & Fireworks

I agree, somewhat,
but, domestic pets have been around a lot longer than any sort of fireworks,
as for the bit in bold, do you have any fireworks that arent current.?
or have you some saved from a few thousand years ago.?

I meant current domestic pets as in - all owners of dogs and cats at this present time bought them with the knowledge bonfire night was like it is. With the lifespan of domestic pets being 20ish years max.

Ive 2 staffies one not fazed at all still demands a walk at around 9pm the other tries to dig through the floor a frantic fashion.

A tip i read last night was to play some white noise . Well i could not believe it but it settled him right down 😯

White Noise? well that is something that I have never heard before, and it works........wow

Well other than white noise being used for being interrogated that is, but hey if it works, happy days,

And happy pooches

so folks that have dogs as a part of their family all their lives should no longer own a dog,?
fireworks were not so big a thing 40 50 60 years ago,
so people that have always had dogs have to change their lives now because some commercialism has taken over.?
FFS, where I come from guy Fawlkes isnt even celebrated, and I'd hazard a guess that most folks letting off fireworks dont even know why they do it.
some people not much older than me couldnt be without their companion, they are like children to them,
anyone that puts a stupid selfish entertainment above the most loyal friend anyone coulkd ever had has obviously never had the joy of unconditional love,
ye, sure, my wains give me all the love I could ever hope for, but the love of a dog is something different.

In my opinion if you acquire a pet nowadays you can't really complain about what is now a very well established, albeit commercialised, tradition.

owning a pet is legal,
noise pollution is not,
and, a tradition isnt something that is a couple of decades old
I have nothing against fireworks, and, as I said, luckily they dont seem to scare our dog, he barks at anything strange, he is fine with the noise, its only the flashing he barks at when he can see it.
but I do sympathise with people who have animals that are spooked,
next thing you will be saying nobody should have horses, there are working horses near to me and one was killed a few years ago after being spooked by fireworks,
is that also on your "you shouldnt buy an animal list" ?

I haven't said anyone shouldn't buy any animal have I?

I tend to disagree, Flying off on holiday is a well established comercialised tradition/event, yet we currently have world leaders gathering to try and curb our ways. I am not saying that these people should gather to discuss fireworks, feck I don't even trust them to discuss global warming (if such a thing exists)! But that is another story/thread!

Also these dogs that have evolved into domestic animals from wolves that were living and roaming this earth long long before fireworks were around

Personally I think the sale of fireworks should be banned for domestic users only organized events allowed, seen to many bad accidents or deliberate attacks with fireworks over the years, as for my dogs older one a wee westie really has a bad time hides him self away , but the younger one a yorkie with no brains does not bother her.

Unofficially there is ban on fireworks in our scheme at the moment there was serious gas explosion the other week and they are now still finding more gas leaks in the area a lot of people are now even scared to go back to there homes.

Yes but we acquire pets knowing what this week is like EVERY year, hence my opinion that we can't really complain. I'd liken it to moving into a house near a school and upon moving in complaining about parents parking everywhere at start and finish time when collecting their kids. Or buying a house on a tree lined street and moaning about leaves on footpaths in autumn.

Yeah gotcha, when you put it like that yes, I understand.

And those that aquire pets should understand the risks involved, and be prepared to help their pets through it should they need it, yes I agree totally, these firework things happen about 2 to 3 times a year (yes some kick the arse out of it and each time lasts sometimes for about 3 days) but prospective owners should be prepared for this, and understand the effects it may have on their pets.

I don't have any pets but have alot of dogs in my area and all you hear is them barking like crazy during bonfire night, new years day when fireworks go off like crazy.

I ain't a fan of fireworks at all especially when there going off in early hours of the morning and wrecking my beauty sleep.

I am not a fan of Fireworks (FULL STOP) for other reason which I will not go into, but my dog not being afraid helps me massively, which is why I initially posted the thread asking the question.

I wondered if he knew that I was (not afraid) but did not like them, had he sensed that, and did that make him 'stand up' and show me that there was nothing to be afraid of?

I don't know, they are very clever animals and sense so much more than we could ever do

Sadly I had to have my dog put to sleep a couple days ago, but I'm glad she isn't hear no more, she would be cowering in the corner tonight, I hate fireworks only because of the animals that are terrified, there's not alot that makes me cry but seeing a dog shivering in the corner is one thing that will that's for sure but it's only 2/3 nights a year so it's swing and roundabouts

I am sorry for your loss Obi, your pain is felt by all dog lovers everywhere, and it comes to us all, sadly more than once in some cases I may add.

It is not a dog that you have lost which has crossed that rainbow bridge, it was a member of your family, but she will always be with you. They sense things that we could never begin to understand, she will be watching mate believe me, chin up mate!
