Big things are happening in rocket launches this week: New Glenn and Starship

New Glenn's First Launch
Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket is finally making its debut on Friday, from Cape Canaveral. This is a big step for Blue Origin as it works to prove the rocket is ready for government and commercial missions. New Glenn’s re-usability and heavy-lift capability could shake up the space industry and provide much-needed competition in the segment.

Starship Flight 7
SpaceX is gearing up for its seventh Starship test flight on Saturday from Boca Chica, Texas. This time, they’ll deploy 10 model Starlink satellites—Starship’s first payload release! They're also re-using an engine from a previous test flight.

Both launches make progress in reusable rockets and space exploration. Definitely worth watching if you can!

The Starship Flight 7 has been pushed back to Monday. This launch will be the first with a second-generation Starship vehicle that will sit atop a first-generation Super Heavy booster. The revised Starship design includes changes to the tank sizes, heat shield, fuel lines, and much more.

The New Glenn launch has now been pushed back as well until the 12th due to weather in the recovery zone. Hoping for a clean launch this weekend!

New Glenn has been pushed back again, still due to weather in the recovery zone.

It's interesting to me how the launch criteria of reusable rockets is affected by not only weather at the launch site, but also weather at the recovery zone.

Blue Origin worked through their entire launch window last night, but eventually had to stand down. They'll try again at a date to be determined.

It finally happened! New Glenn left the pad and delivered its payload to orbit. The first stage was lost during descent; we should eventually learn more details of what happened.

Starship in ~5 hours as long as the weather holds up!

In case you missed it, Starship shot skyward on Thursday. The upper stage experienced a RUD some time after hot staging, but the booster returned to the launch site and was caught by the launch tower!

Thus concludes the "big things". 🚀
