VPN with an Eero router

I'm on fttp broadband using an eero 6 router. I'm going to add a vpn but I can't find a straight answer on whether or not you can install it directly on the router.

Some say you can, some say to add another router inline and put the vpn on that whilst others say to put the vpn on each device using the network.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I don't think the eero 6 supports VPN directly so another device is required between the eero and your devices. I would recommend using a VPN per device when needed as it does cause slower speeds.

I've decided to use the vpn per device as you suggest. Partly due to the eero router complicating things but mainly because most vpn's come with multiple licences.

Just waiting for surfshark to put a decent offer on again.

Yeah I hate how the eero router settings is only accessible via the mobile app. It makes it very limited. It's not really aimed at power users. It's a shame as it's not a bad piece of hardware.
Black Friday is around the corner and VPN providers usually have great deals.

As others have mentioned, VPN per device is the way I'd go. I have the Eero as well as while it's great for what it does, security is not at the forefront of what they put together lol. There's a few great VPNs out there and as @toocan mentioned, Black Friday is coming up and providers have great deals during that time. Already a lot of them are posting big time sales too.
