VLC for Firestick, good app?

Hi,

I googled good iptv player app and in the search results I can see this VLC player app in replied posts by people in places like reddit & such. And they say the app is Open-Source where most iptv apps copy their code from it so VLC is like the benchmark standard of iptv apps from what I read backed by lots of good customer reviews in the amazon app store.

I like to know how do you get iptv working on VLC on firestick, how do you set VLC up and what are the best settings to use for VLC firestick version and does VLC have favourites function and EPG?

Cheers,

I think users mainly use it as an external player when using an existing iptv app.
Tivimate or iMPlayer are definitely a better option.

Is this gunna be another long winded thread of going round in circles again.
Most use vlc as an external player for vod and series as some say content plays better with it.
The best way to tell if good for you is look and download it to your firestick set it as an external player and try content on it.
After your last thread that got locked doubt many will have an input on this thread as you come across as a person that doesn't like to listen to advice

Spot on and I won’t be contributing anymore as I can’t imagine many users use VCL as a standalone app for iptv when there are better options available.

You can use tivimate, smarters, iboplayer what ever and set the player to be VLC.

You need to find the app you like the best

Download vlc aswell

In settings on the app you like the best goto player in options and choose VLC to play the streams .

Some use it only for vod

Okay to confirm a already existing iptv player app needs to be installed for the separate VLC app player to work, VLC does not work with the iptv provider directly for live channels?

I'm just looking for a iptv app that works on firestick and on the LG Smart TV. On firestick if the iptv app is not downloaded officially from the amazon app store and instead it is downloaded via 'Downloader app' then can this iptv app be auto updated like the official apps on firesticks? In other words for example can tivimate on firestick be auto updated when tivimate releases a new version?

Correct, VLC just works as a separate video player

Test the apps that have been kindly suggested,

Personally I wouldn't set apps to auto update , if it's working fine no point updating.

I wasn’t going to contribute anymore but will answer your question.
You can play M3U URL playlist with VCL on windows but I haven’t tried it on Android as the apps I mentioned are way better for iptv on android.
As mentioned users use VCL mainly for VOD because they experience codec issues with other iptv apps internal players.
As mentioned you don’t have to update as soon as an update is released.
You can wait and see if users report any issues first and just wait to see if the update becomes stable with further fixes.
I mainly use Tivimate and the latest release and I have no issues with it.
I also have iMPlayer and have tested it and can’t find any issues with it either.
They don’t get updated very often because they don’t need to be.
All you have to do now is pick one or both and stop going round in circles.
Let’s hope all the information you have gathered over the last three thread you started, you are ready to make a decision

Yes it can auto update. No difference installing from downloader than app store. All the same.

All downloader does is shorten URLs entering a code is easier than typing out long URLs

As said above I've seen this done on windows. But never on firesticks/TV.

To much hassle typing on long URLs again as you would need a m3u thing typing into VLC media player

I think I have M3U playlist, will iptv service work directly on VLC player firestick version, if so where do I go enter my M3U on VLC firestick?

I like to use VLC player because it is open-source. People on internet say open-source are the best & free.

I don’t use amazon devices and I haven’t used M3U playlists on VCL using Android.
I have used it on windows years ago and I would never use it on Android as it is going to be a poor choice compared to a well developed Android iptv app like the ones I have mentioned.
If it was a good option users would be using it but don’t know anyone who is.

Never tried it as said above.

My favourite app is tivimate. Ibo player, smarters.

All work flawlessly and do everything I need.

Not sure how to help you anymore

I'm not sure he should get anymore help , any suggestions he gets he comes back with something else. Try your M3U list on VLC and let us know how it goes instead of stating everybody on the internet says it's the dogs bollocks . Try it .
Edited : yeah VLC just loads every thing a a big massive list .it's been that long since I used it
Good Bye you are beyond are help .

I tried m3u on VLC when ipeetv first come out years ago as all you had them was m3u lists.

It was shite on VLC and it was one long stupid list with all the vod cramed in.

Try the trusted apps as suggested pal. Don't give yourself any more headaches ha 🤣
