Updating V8S AJ Channel List released today

Hi,

I am currently running the AJ Channel List 27/12/2014.

I have downloaded the latest AJ Channel list 30/01/2015 and just want to confirm that these instructions are ok for a V8s as some people delete the old channel lists first ?

Press Menu on remote, and highlight ''TOOLS''
Select 'Upgrade by USB'
In new window, use arrow keys to change top line to 'MISC FILES'
Move down to 'SELECT AND UPGRADE'
A new window opens, select 'TP_PROG.dbs' press green button to place a tick by it and then press yellow button to upgrade.

To delete the channel list first, I would follow these steps, but wanted to confirm if it is necessary on V8S ?
Press Menu and select "Edit Channel"
Select "Delete All"
Select "Yes" and Press OK.

Thanks

There is no need to delete as you are just upgrading, but a lot of people had problems with previous boxes so it's totally your decision.
Reaper.

The advantage of deleting the old list first is that if you install the new list & for some reason it doesn't install properly, you may think you have installed it, but you might still have the old list on the box.

There have been posts from members in the past that insist that they have installed the latest, but they haven't. It's only when they delete the old list first that they realise that they are not installing the latest list properly.

I don't use CWAITE/sattv5's list myself, but I like the idea that he has set channel 1 up to show the date of the installed list. Perhaps AJ could do the same on channel 999 ?

I have read that some people have had issues where the V8S does not like USB inserted channel lists and can even brick the box - is this still a risk or have recent firmware updates fixed this issue ?

I assume using either front usb or rear usb makes no difference.

Lastly when I upgrade by USB the option "Keeping DBS and Setting" should be "Yes" ?

On an F5s box you cannot change "keeping DBS and setting" to "NO" when upgrade mode is set to misc files. It is fixed to "YES".

Is the V8s the same, or can it be changed?

If I delete the old channel list first following the instructions in the first post, do I need to reset box after deleting channels and again after installing new channel list ?

Also I have read that some people have to do a re-scan after installing channel list - is this necessary ?

When you delete all channels they are deleted immediately. You can then install the new channel list. Once installed, you then need to put the box into standby, & then back on again for the new channel list to take effect.

If the new channel list is up to date, then there's no need to scan afterwards.

I sometimes do a TP scan if a channel has changed transponder, or if a new channel starts & I want to watch it before a new channel list comes out.
