Sky dish with hybrid LNB.

Mr Bridger

Member
Hi, my Sky dish I believe has a 6 output hybrid LNB, It feeds Sky Q in the living room and also has 2 freesat feeds into 2 bedrooms.
Even though my plan is to bin off Sky Q I want to keep the feed into the living room so I have options if a good deal should come at some point and I'm still in contract until November.
I also want to run freesat feeds into the living room and bedrooms, do I need one feed if I want to connect to TV which has a sat tuner and 2 feeds if I want to connect to a recordable box?
I also need to replace the cables as I've cut the bedroom feeds as I thought I would never use them again because of the Sky Q mini boxes. When I replace them I will do the Sky Q feed as well. Can anyone help with what cabling I will need for the job please and best place to purchase?
I have easy access via a ladder to the dish but will have to sling the cable over the roof for the living room and 1 bedroom but I can't see that being an issue.
TIA. Cheers.

So I can take one feed out of my Q box and plug into TV, scan and should work?

Popped one in the TV, scanned for channels and there's Dion Dublin showing me up to the bedrooms :sunglasses: Happy days.
Would still like to replace the bedroom feeds so any idea what cable I should be looking for please?

I would have thought that the hybrid lnb would have two wideband ports for your sky Q and 4 legacy ports so using a port from your Q box to the tv wouldn’t scan in all the channels as it’s connected to the wideband port at the lnb

Yes that is what i thought. I have the same LNB with 2 of them being wideband and 4 of them as legacy.

I thought the same but took 1 from Q box and it worked. 100+ channels I think it was, just flipped through BBC and ITV channels. I've disconnected now and back in Q box.

Doubt it as the feeds in the living room are for Sky Q only and any other use might not happen.
If you leave Q then change your lnb.
Not sure how many boxes out there are made for Sky Q feeds

Plenty of channels wont work but some might

This is how I thought it worked, but like I said I took 1feed from the Q box plugged it into the TV and got channels that worked.

I have that same lnb. All 6 ports are hybrid. It has been discussed on other forums too. Sky only switched to the 2 Wideband and 4 legacy ports later.

WF100 or CT100 should do.

Judging by the name of that pic, you are comparing a generic lnb from eBay to a genuine sky EL 010 lnb lol.

Where did you cut the wires? If just as they enter the bedroom, it might be simpler to use barrel connectors and amalgamating tape. Saves you replacing the whole cable.

If you are going to replace the whole length, the shotgun cable is easier to run.

[Strike]I beg to differ with previous advice. A hybrid LNB has wideband and universal ports. The ports themselves are not hybrid. The wideband ports are horizontal/vertical. They will work in a limited manner on a non-sky Q receiver for the frequency range that the wideband port works on. There is no high/low switching. You can double check by moving the wires used for your skyq into other ports. Label the wires before you start moving them.

@Mr Bridger can you do a blind scan with your TV please?

So rather than set it as freesat, is there an option to scan for all channels on 28.2E rather than the limited few that are freesat?

Scanning in progress 19.2 took it to 50% = 195 programmes found, now scanning 28.2 very slow but programmes are going up.
We'll see what happens when its done.

load of channels, over 800. Most of it says No CI Module and don't work. I guess its just the freesat one that do work.

Lovely! I think that confirms it that you are getting all the channels o 28.2e and that this lnb has 6 "smart" ports.

Just to check, you mention that you are running Freesat feeds and a recordable box. Will you be buying a Freesat 4k box? I read on another forum that the Arris 4k Freesat boxes are unable to switch the ports to Wideband for this lnb - I have not tested it myself, so cannot verify it.

The only freesat I'm using is inbuilt in to LG G3 TV, I don't have any boxes to try.
Just doing a blind scan on 19.2 & 28.2 with the option to skip scrambled programmes checked. This is all trial and error for me so we'll see what happens.
