Openbox V5s in a caravan

Hi all

Just want to check my understanding on this.

My dad works away and has got a V5s box for when he is at home. He is wondering if he can use it in his caravan when he is working away.

My understanding is that the signal for the box goes through the internet connection and not the sat dish so it wouldn't work (pulled my LAN cable out of mine to test this on a sky channel and it scrambled)

is this correct and if it is is there any way around it?

Thanks for your time.

Matt

Completely wrong. The signal comes via the satellite dish. The internet connection is used to hack the pay channels. Without an internet connection, all of the free to view channels will work, but the pay channels will not. An internet connection on it's own without a satellite dish will do nothing.

I use a box in my caravan.

Mine is set up like this, sat dish on a tripod outside the caravan, WiFi dongle using 3 network.

Dongle goes in a travel router, ethernet from travel router to the box.

It is a bit hit and miss depending where you are.

I have heard you get a much more stable connection by using a WiFi dongle into a lap top.

Set the lap top on mute but search for a radio station on the net and play that in the back ground.

Streaming a small bit of data on a laptop is supposed to give you a much more stable connection
than using a direct connection to the box. (I will try this method in the Summer)
