Octagon SF8008 4K UHD "dual wifi" is NOT dual wifi! | Techkings

Octagon SF8008 4K UHD "dual wifi" is NOT dual wifi!

Had to change my home network having previously used a LAN, wired connection now I need to use the wifi for my Octagon SF8008 4K UHD box which was advertised on Amazon and by the seller as "dual wifi". However it will not pick up my home 5G wifi network, only 2G so I can only get slow download speeds, not really good enough for UHD streaming.
It has the dual antennae on the back, so I assumed it would be up to date but it's very disappointing to find this out.
I have tried to contact the seller or manufacturer but so far no reply and Amazon are no help.
Is there anyway I can bring this up to spec for 5G? A firmware update is unlikely as it most likely will be the chip inside. Is there a USB dongle that will do it?
I see now that Octagon are selling a V2 or "premium" version of this with 2G and 5G wifi but I am extremely disappointed as I thought I WAS getting the best version. It's only a few months old.
Disgruntled with Octagon.

WiFi built-in, 300Mbit, 2x WiFi antennas
300Mbit is more than enough to stream uhd

Can't get anywhere near 300 mb on my 2G network. On my 5G I get plenty...that's my issue. This was advertised as dual wifi which it is not. Sounds as if many had this issue on wifi because now they have released 2 new models with dual band, up to 1200 meg speed. I am talking to the dealer, abel-shop-eu.
They said they made a mistake in the advertising...something about dual antennae... so let's see if they can help me here. I will give them great feedback if they can.

A super high bitrate will be less than 100 Mbps. When I look at the bandwidth used on my IPTV UHD channels it's somewhere around 20-40 Mbps
-----------------
2.4 Ghz range is good for devices that can be further away, but speeds are nothing to get excited about (up to 450 Mbps or 600 Mbps)
5 Ghz range has more bandwidth ( max 1300 Mbps) but doesn't do well when far away from source or thick walls in between

WiFi speeds are dependant on a lot of factors, distance from router and possible interference from other signals round about. 2.4 Ghz range is more susceptible to interference .

The model you need is the Supreme version check the old advert on Amazon and see if it says Supreme dual wifi

Thanks, yes I am talking to the supplier who are a main distributor for Octagon products. Seems this was a problem because a month or 2 after I bought mine they released 2 new models, both with dual band wifi up to 1200 meg. They said they will replace this as they admit the advertising was misleading, so I will report back as and when they do. They are called abel-shop-eu .

They have changed it now that I pointed it out to them and also to Amazon!
When I bought mine it just said "dual wifi"
They admitted there could be confusion in translation or something but the fact remains. I thought I was getting what is pretty normal these days...a box that picks up the 5G band from a home router.
I have gone into the router settings and set up dual networks, a 2G and a 5G but by the time I get the 2G, at peak times my box can get as low as 3meg up to about 45meg. On 5G I can get over 600 but never below 250. That's what I need to use but cannot.

Anyhow the dealer on Amazon have said they will replace this. Seems I got one of the last ones before the upgrade so buyer beware, if you use wifi make sure you get the new "Supreme" model which has dual band wifi and up to 1200 mbps. I bought the top of the range at the time and assumed it would be able to use my home, 5G network as this is a 4K, UHD enigma box.
I will update the thread if and when they kindly help me.

This was the description when I purchased it :
Octagon SF8008 4K HDR UHD H.265 E2 Linux Dual WiFi DVB-S2X & T2C Combo Cable DVB-T2 & Sat-Receiver

Well that is good news if they are going to replace your stb and hopfully you will get desired speeds :) but just because you may get new device it could still be down to your wifi signal in premises.

Example even though virgin media sent me one of the new hub 5 when they just came out wifi was still not great and instanly disabled and put it into modem mode and went back to using my deco M4 mesh but I do not have gigabit connection just 350MB package.

That's a good point, I changed my wifi channel on the router due to interference on the same channel from neighbours... but even my 7 year old smart TV's can pick up my 5G wifi and their download speeds are very good. I was shocked to find the Octagon 4K can't do that. Still waiting to hear from the supplier...fingers crossed...
