New to Sky Q, can I use multi room box over ethernet instead of WiFi?

We moved from Sky Plus to Sky Q today. I was hoping I could use my multi room box down in my shed at the bottom of the garden linked via ethernet, technician told me it's not possible but I read you can change settings somehow on the box to only be linked via ethernet and not WiFi.

From what he told me, the multi room box is connected to the main sky Q box so it syncs up but both boxes are connected to a little WiFi hub of sorts he put in.

I would have preferred he connect all via my virgin hub but I didn't know he was doing that.

Anyone had any experience in unlocking extra settings on these boxes to force over ethernet instead of WiFi?

Thanks alot

Now that is the million dollar question and sky have sunk so much into Sky Q I would not be surprised if it was bulletproof. Yes the main box is a mini hub and from what I can glean boosts the wi fi signal quite a bit. It is the main reason I have put off getting sky q. But you may get solution.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

I’m sure this is what I did to connect sky q and mini box via Ethernet as the WiFi hub that sky engineer fitted kept dropping the connection between devices

ok from day 1 both my boxs main and mini have been connected using wifi. i have just recently connected both via ethernet cable. my query is= yes i have done resets on both boxes. (main reset and turned off 2.6 gh wifi) this now shows connection to a number i dont reconize ? done the same reset on the mini and this shows the same number as the main. my query is i want a wifi signal in the garage so because i have turned wifi 2.6 g off does that mean the mini will not push a wifi signal out (the mini is the closest to the garage ) as the 2.6 gh wifi is turned off would it now only send the 5gh wifi over ? if i turn both the 2.6 and 5 gh wifi on the main box will this stip all wifi to other devices etc

2.4 not 2.6

Are you on Sky broadband?

Honestly I would invest in a wifi mesh to solve your garage requirement and leave the sky boxes connected over ethernet and disable all wifi on those.

Thanks yes I am using a sky router. I do use a sky booster in the garage and the speed is good. I presume the booster will extend the signal from that mini box no or does it extend the signal from the router ?

Best to invest in a simple unmanaged Ethernet switch in your garage.
You can then connect the mini and your Q booster to Ethernet.
When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit
