Looking for a New Router for my Home ??

Hi all,

I have a Virgin SuperHUB 3.0 and have had nothing but trouble as I live in a house that was built in the early 1920`s, when Virgin fitted router and phone etc they went for the quickest rute ie at front room in and out I know they work on commission lol. So anyway have found since then that i struggle to get any sort or strong signal upstairs at rear of house and you can forget rear garden.
So since then have tried TP-Link wifi Booster wasn`t very good then installed Wifi Booster wireless extenders from Netgear a bit better but still not great so am now looking for a decent router to replace Virgin Hub in front room but looking to spend a lot more as I need router that aswell as strong fast speed also worked well over a long distance more than anything else.
Does anyone have a router that they could recommend and if at all possible one that works also on new Wifi 6 ???

Many Thanks
Carmine

I also have VM and I have my VM Router in modem mode, because they are rubbish and it was forever droping out! I use an Asus RT AC88U connected to the VM Hub this does cover the whole house, but I also have an RT AC86U upstairs connected using AIMESH. I also updated the firmware to ASUSWRT - Merlin

Look at Asus or Linksys routers.
Okay thank you.
I have looked at Asus not looked at Linkys yet, need something that is quick but has a strong signal to cover as far as possible

As stated you still have to use your VM router you just cannot replace it with another router you can however put router into modem mode then add router to that , I just went for deco m4 mesh system and do have great coverage over house with just two devices , I have also acquired a asus rt-ac68u router but for different reasons just want to add vpn to router.

What about home plugs with built in WiFi. We use virgin and use tp link ac1200. Take a decent speed to any room over the mains and use Ethernet ports on the other side or turn this into WiFi. I think this is the model

I had tried tp link older wpa4220 kit was ok but not a patch on deco m4 they also have dual ethernet ports and about the same price. Iv'e mentioned the deco m4 so many times today members may think I have shares but honestly best investment I have made for the price .

TP link mesh systems seems really popular and some of the best systems going.

home plugs of any sort need decent electrical mains wireing and are tied to same circuit (some say different) where as mesh does not need to be on same electrical circuit.

I've had no trouble using mine via extension leads. But have heard of this. But in my experience they will work.... Paul

How about pfsense or ubiquity , you would need seperate access points but for security probably hard beat.

Yes I also saw this written somewhere on the internet very true, I know that my electrical wiring is all okay and had it checked out but still not great for me as it was another options already tried a while ago

Yes I read about this somewhere but if there past routers/hubs are anything to go by are they going to be any good ??

Very unlikely reading some posts on the VM forums people who have the hub 5 already have complained of WIFI issues.

ISP routers generally are pretty awful.
