Lazy beagle

Anyone else own a beagle?. Ours as just turned three. Last year he would do easily 10 mile a day really walked fast around too. Most of the time pulling.

Last few months he would rather not go or he's the full lead out behind walking as slow as he can. Almost as if he's seen his arse over something .

Seems fine in himself. Maybe I've got a broken one

Beautiful boy 🐶

One of my mates got a Beagle for his first dog, as him and his wife thought they were cute. They didn’t do any research and struggled when they got him. One lesson they learnt was to not let him off the lead in rural areas. Their hunting instinct kicks in and he would disappear for hours into Forrest’s. They would shout for him and he would occasionally come back to check where they were and then bugger off again. After 5/6 times of this happening they would only let him off in an enclosed area that was fenced in. I believe they are pretty strong willed dogs 🐕

Oh he his strong willed. It's his way or nothing. Same here he's not to bad off lead. But if he sniffs something he's off

Arlo and Otis are the same 🤣 well Ronnie and Reggie as i call them. Otis's first day out with Arlo other day and trying to tire Arlo out is near on impossible he can run around all day long. Have you thought about about taking a distraction toy out that he really likes 🤔🤔, Arlo wont go out unless tennis ball or rubber frizby is present lol.

Why would you let your dog off its if there recall isn’t instantly coming back to you.
If you’re walking him the same place every time dogs do tend to get used to it and bored of it as they know which way they are going and where.
Try taking it a different route and different place it may bring that incentive to go for walks again or as rs says take a distraction toy but personally think it’s cause it’s the same place he’s walked and got bored of it

Mother in law could not exercise or keep hers entertained no matter how much time she put in to him, he had great recall though so id take him on a 2 hour walk with my Staffies down the canal bank and woods. Mud, hills dense vegetation a ball thrower and a Frisbee.

Was in its element if the ball or Frisbee got lost, the Beagle would find it.

My dogs knackered slept for hours. Her Beagle not a chance i reckon it had ADHD 🤣

Eventually she rehomed him, went to a local farmer, much happier dog there she visits him from time to time. The only other dog ive seen need so much exercise and entertainment was a Springer Spaniel. Its the breeds, they need stimulus.

He goes to fields that are enclosed.

We let him off to play ball which he likes and comes back with the ball and instantly back on lead when other dogs come.

He's not as bad as some beagles

We go on loads of walks this place is dog heaven around here. We also pay for a massive area wooded and rivers streams and nobody else around around 70 acres to walk in.

Seen two people in two years

Never stick to the same walk

Great photos. I've always had dogs and as much as they are great companions, they are also great for getting some good exercise. I'm always out with the dog and take him wherever I go. When I lost my last dog there was a period of around 3 months where I had no dog and it made me realise how much it gets me out of the house. Don't get me wrong, when it's pissing of rain, windy or snowing, the thought of going out isn't great, but as a dog owner you have to do it. I also met my last girlfriend by meeting in the park with our dogs and will often stop and speak to random people who want to say hi to the dog. I wouldn't speak to these people otherwise. If you've never had a dog you may not realise the value they bring to your life.

I go twice a day with him. Never walked so much in my life

Rain wind snow he doesn't mind any of it.

He was a COVID dog. My partners mum bought him during COVID £2500 there not very mobile and definitely didn't do any sort of homework about the breed.

He lasted two months there. He wrecked the place. They couldn't toilet train him. Eat the sofa, fake grass ruined, clothes ruined, shoes ruined, bed ruined.

They phoned us crying please can you have him your always out and about. We can't do it he's ruining our live. You can have him for free!!

We have never had a dog. Only pets we had had were a cat and fish. Lol

We asked how far do you walk him.. just down the road and back.

He come here...

Well he's had us in tears here too.

He's eat our sofa slightly. Toilet training was hard to start.. we had never done it before .

But what a dog now. He rings a bell to go the toilet outside ha 🤣

He his so intelligent it's unreal.

No accidents at all now.

And we found the more you walk him the calmer he his. If he doesn't go when he wants he starts mischievous behaviour ha 🤣

I get that, back in my youth i had a Border Collie Cross. Fully grown he was like a 10 month old Border Collie with the brains of one and so cute.

Proper babe magnet he wa

No one talks to me with my Staffies except other Staffie owners. Sod em.

What gets me is how people you have never met before will come up to you and ask about your dog or ask to pet it or will say I had a dog like that and then tell you all about.
Especially when I am stood outside shops waiting for my Mrs which is a bonus as I don’t have to mope round the shop board senseless.

I live in the middle of a busy tourist city and I get so many tourists coming up to me wanting to speak to Wallace, or my previous dog Lori. They'll tell me how they miss their dog back home and it's really nice to have nice interactions with strangers where you bond over your love of dogs. Admittedly I do the same when I'm away 🐶

That’s why I always say those famous words Not Friendly if anyone approaches me and my dogs

Sometimes I can't resist petting a cute dog but I always ask for permission! Can definitely look like a crazy lady so maybe I need to tone it down. All interactions have been very positive with owner telling me about their dog and it leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling, a moment of joy and nice break from the daily grind.
