IPTV subscription or get a cable box?

taztheman

Newbie
I have recently purchased a V8s box with n line and now the sly sports channels have started to go dark.
from what I have read so far, I see 2 options, one is to either get an IPTV subs (approx. £50-£70 per year) or get a cable box which will need a C line (buy the box and the cable Cline).
Which option of the above is more future proof (as things stand now)? Your advice will be much appreciated.

nobody could answer this question, with sky changing the encryption Virgin could follow suit but then again sky could go hunting after IPTV suppliers and shut down their servers for streaming their products everything with this is always a risk I've only been on it for a couple of years and literally took the plunge buying a Zgemma box 3 weeksish before the channels started to go dark, I've got an IPTV sub at the moment but that is purely because I don't have the option at the minute to go with Virgin

Thanks scottie, is there any difference on operating i.e. channel lists, user interface etc. any different on IPTV. I have been on openbox for a while and am used to it, is IPTV any different in the way it works i.e. changing channels, favourite lists etc.

if your on openbox then there will be no epg for IPTV if you use it on your box, IPTV is available on a wide range of platforms but if like me you like to use a box for it the openbox is capable of doing it but with no EPG.

In the menu's on openbox you might have seen webtv this is what it runs through. Again I am on a Zgemma and these boxes are slightly better as you can set it up with your Bouquets etc. Might be worth investing in a Zgemma H2h regardless of which route you are planning on going that way you could have virgin or IPTV and it would be setup the same for both options. IPTV also gives you a full range of other channels from europe and america if that's your kind of thing. 3pm kickoffs in the premiership is great :)

I guess I can always test the IPTV sub (24 hour) to see what it is like and go from there. I only bought the V8s few months ago and not keen on buying any new box unless no other suitable option remains. For now IPTV seems to be the less hectic option. What is the going rate for zgemma box? is this a cable box?
