IPTV queries

I am new to all this and I know that there is a plethora of threads relating to this stuff out there. There are so many advances in technology that it is difficult to know what is best at present.

1. So my first question is, what is IPTV and how does it differ from something like Mobdro?

Currently I am using an Amazon Fire TV stick, it does the job but I am not a massive fan of the interface on Mobdro and would like something that runs similar to a set top box i.e. something where I can get a tv guide, watch at a decent standard and can record... Is this possible?

2. What is the quality of IPTV like? How does IPTV fair against normal satellite TV viewing?

Ideally I would like something that is to a HD standard. I tried watching a GAA game on Mobdro the other day on RTE but the standard was crap. I switched over to my laptop and used the online service and it was a fantastic picture.

3. What is the best IPTV box that is currently available on the market and how much would I be looking to spend?

I have looked at the boxes and do not have a clue. I have a Vu+ solo2 set top box but I don't know how or if it will perform well enough with an IPTV service. I have considered the Nvidia Shield but would it perform the same function as what I have asked for in the first question? (provide a TV guide).

4. Is there a subscription fee that would need to be paid?

I am familiar with cardsharing but with that falling off the face of the earth is it a similar set up with IPTV?

5. What channels can I get?

I am in England so can I get Irish channels like RTE?

6. Should a VPN be used?

I already have NordVPN and just wondering with the type of service being provided, would it be a good idea to use one?

If anyone can help with the questions I would be thankful. I have looked at IPTV sections but my limited knowledge on these matters is making it difficult for me to distinguish between a Mobdro setup and an IPTV setup

I'll answer some of your questions:
IPTV is similar to what you get on Mobdro but it's a paid for service, not free streams
You can't record iptv using a firestick
Yes you can get an EPG with the firestick and any other iptv box
quality varies from provider to provider and channel to channel
Yes there is a subscription to pay
Cardsharing hasn't finished, there's 100 channels on sat and 400 on cable
You can get RTE with iptv, depending on the provider
VPN is up to you, you shouldn't need one with a good provider

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply.

I'll answer some of your questions:
IPTV is similar to what you get on Mobdro but it's a paid for service, not free streams - Does this mean it is legal?
You can't record iptv using a firestick - Is there a device I can use that can?
Yes you can get an EPG with the firestick and any other iptv box
quality varies from provider to provider and channel to channel - Realistically I am probably not going to get anything better than Mobdro?
Yes there is a subscription to pay
Cardsharing hasn't finished, there's 100 channels on sat and 400 on cable - Has it not finished for sky sports/rte etc?
You can get RTE with iptv, depending on the provider

iptv isn't legal in the eyes of the law but this is unlikely to put anyone off
Lots of iptv capable boxes will record programmes yes but you often need a seperate usb or hard drive for storage
sky sports has ended on sat but not cable, they're all still there, in SD at least
Sat still has BT Sports in HD and lots of other channels also in hd

If you want it to look like a sky box then you need an enigma box. All depends what you want, sat connections, cable connections, IPTV only or a combination of all of them.

Also depends on budget. If you can detail the above, it will be easier to suggest a box.

@Celticbhoy88 Nvidia shield will perform as you require, epg, recording etc as that's what I use.

Now, before people start saying it's too expensive etc etc, I also use mine for numerous android apps and games. If you are planning to use it for IPTV only then it is overkill.

If you are going to use it for other Android apps, Kodi, plus gaming then go for it, you will not be disappointed. I got mine recently and I regret waiting so long to get one.

Don't necessarily want it to look like Sky, just want to basics where I can search EPG, Record, look at what is on a channel there and then rather than brows through a TV guide and just to have audio and visual that doesn't glitch or go patchy all the time.

I did consider a Nvidia Shield but have read they can be unreliable. I would say I have a max budget of £170

If you dont want to spend too much money then just put the perfect player ap onto your firestick and then try a few tests from here, then decide on what one you think works best for you and try monthly subs at a time, what i will say is a paid iptv sub will be better than mobdro any day, in my opinion.

Just trying a trial now and I am pleasantly surprised. It is a little bit blocky but would that be the fire stick rather than the sub?

Iptv has come on leaps and bounds. You should be able to get full HD on sports channels most movie channels are 720 all the channels will be a mixture. What do you mean by blocky

If you have a vu solo 2 use that, don't waste your money buying another box. They are great boxes and run IPTV without problem and you can set it up exactly like sly.You can also use the satellite channels as a backup and you have the IPTV player for movies and tv shows..

Is there a guide available on how to do this?

I would use open ATV image and If your supplier gave you a username and password you could use the suls plugin. Have a look around the site there are a few options available.
You could use an image like Wooshbuild infinity which is a good image.

You know when you watch a stream and you get the blocky effect - there are a few channels that look like that. It isn't something that is glaringly obvious, but was wondering is it because of the device?

Iptv is pretty good now and I don't really get pixelating.I would check your internet speeds, make sure any family filters are turned off and if you still get pixelating I would say
it is the provider.

I would say I am being picky, it really isn't that bad.

I watched RTE and it was perfect.
Turned it over to Sky Sports and there was wrestling on and that is when it started to go a little - nothing unbearable - but there was a drop in picture quality.

This may have been down to a lower quality bit rate stream or your provider like most don't have there own streams.

It could be the supplier or equally it could be down to the processing power of the device you are using. I think the VU range are a bit of overkill unless you are using a sat or cable line as well as iptv.

I use a mag 322/323 and it is perfect for iptv if you want the sky look you will have to go with a enigma 2 box. The best thing you can do if you have a mate who has a different device see how it works on your network.

I have bought the MAG 322 and it seems like a nifty device. Tried it last night but I noticed there was freezing on the box every 20 seconds especially on sky sports channels. Might need to upgrade the box?

Could be provider, internet....start with the basics and go from there.

Are you wired or WiFi?
ISP blockers removed?
Try the sub on another device?
