Ignorant Stremio user here with some questions

Ok, no doubt some of these questions have been asked and answered before but users here seem more trustworthy than some of the threads I read on Reddit so I was hoping someone could help me out?

I am happy with the VOD from my supplier but since I see the word Stremio & RD mentioned so much I figured I'd give them a go. For €4 it's worth seeing. Anyway, it looks great and the 4K selection is really what sold me. I'm just wondering a few things.

I stream my TV from a Shield but I set up the Stremio on my LG C3 instead. Don't ask me why. I don't know how much space all these streaming takes up? I guess I'm wondering if it's best to have everything on the one device (shield) or is it unimportant except for the convenience?

Also see a lot of conflicting voices on VPN. I use a VPN on my shield but not on the TV where I have the stremio. Should you use VPN with this?

Yes, maybe stupid questions but really don't have a bloody clue here... cheers fellas

It’s up to you which device you run it on.
I run all my apps on the dedicated device.
What you are watching on Stremio is just cached so your are not actually downloading data to your device.
Similar to how official streaming apps work.

You also don’t need a VPN as all the data you are accessing is encrypted through the Real Debrid servers.
VPN is actually a hindrance when using RD.

No VOD from a supplier can compare to how much VOD you can access through RD or similar Debrid service.
But it’s a nice backup option to have.

I agree, I prefer dedicated device for my IPTV and Stremio/RD

I used to pride myself on downloading 4K UHD movies locally and using Plex to watch and share them. I binned all that once I tested Stremio/RD. Just no need to download it locally, unless I'm travelling and want to watch offline. It's been a game-changer for me + my family (who I set this up for as well)

If you’re interested in a good 4k selection, weyd and syncler is better for a bigger variety of links but does cost compared to stremio.

Thanks fellas!
I downloaded Stremio onto my shield and the picture is a *little* better from the TV app but yeah I get it, everything in the one place just makes more sense. Thanks again!

VPN is actually a hindrance when using RD.

Why is this? I have it running on the shield so np to just switch it off when I need to. Just wondering how it affects RD.

You just use Stremio now, not Syncler?

Latency and having to go through another server when you don’t need to.
You are reducing your Internet speed by using a VPN.
If I stream a large remux file say 100gb and turn vpn on I can have buffering issues.
I only have 250mb connection but if you have higher connection speed you maybe unaffected.
But there is no need to use a VPN when using an RD account.
It’s all encrypted.
It’s your own personal choice but I have never used one with RD.

I use a bit of both if I'm honest. If there was a native Syncler app for Mac I might use it exclusively. I tried Android emulators and it was just a faff. Couldn't get sound to passthrough properly, so gave up.
