Hello all, very general question, I have recently moved to a new property, the property has a satellite dish installed, so I hooked up my humax freesat 1100s box but there was no signal, so I bought a new LNB and new cable and connectors and hooked it up so all was good but shortly after that it's now given me a very intermittent signal, then the signal will drop out completely.
I have sent for digital signal finder to see if that will help.
I'm now wondering if it could be the humax box or the dish itself that could be at fault, do you guys have any advice ?

Will do, I think the signal finder should be here tomorrow so when I'm checking that I'll check the connections 👍
 
Yeah so on the humax box it gives you signal and quality (I think) in the settings the signal was registering at good (full bar)and the quality bar was two thirds full.

You don't have any trees near you or even a few doors away do you. A good few years ago my dad would get an intermittent signal on his box and then it would come back right. Even with my meter and peaking the dish the signal would drop. It turned out to be some tree 3 gardens across. The dish needed to be moved to a different position on the house higher up.
 
No there are no trees in line of sight, Im at work atm but ill check for sure when I go home for lunch, but I'm almost positive, one other thing that I noticed is that only one tuner is showing up, number 2 tuner isn't showing up (someone said this only shows when the box is recording) and it says connected with one cable
 
Just a little update, so today I received a satellite finder, and tuned the dish in to what I thought was a good, strong signal, so went inside to the tv and the picture was perfect on all channels, checked the strength and the quality bars in the settings and both the bars were full so getting a good signal, or so I thought after about three hours the signal scrambled and then lost picture completely, so now I've no idea what's happening 🤷‍♂️
I'm out of ideas
 
What happens to the signal level when it starts pixelating? Have you checked the cables for a short. If you have a multimeter check for a short by testing on continuity between inner and outer cores on the cable.

Thanks for getting back to me, the cables are brand new as is the lnb, I wasn't wanting when it went off, the wife was watching she said that it just pixelated then went off and hasn't come back on, I do have a multimeter but never was taught how to use it 🤦
It's a new property we moved the nto which had a satellite dish installed so I originally hooked up my Freesat box but got nothing so I changed the lnb and also the cabling, thinking that would do it 😭

Did you replace lnb like for like or did you change to a hybrid or universal lnb. Could it be you replace lnb with sky q lnb or that your Humax box works only on sky q lnb?

I don't think thats your issue it looks like you replaced the lnb with a universal lnb which is correct and a google search shows the humax box works on a universal lnb.

Do you know anyone with a old sky box lying around or a old free sat box just to test and see if its actually the humax box that is a fault.
 
If the LNB, cable and connectors are all new and you are happy they are well fitted, have you tried a different receiver to ensure there is not a problem with your Humax?
 
I have an octagon sf8008 box, I tried to put willow onto it last night but when I tried to scan for my region it came up with a tuner fault, I did have an old sky box but I threw it out when I moved house the other week 😭

With the e2 box if you have it connected to the lnb and hopefully you can get it connected to internet via cable or wifi. You could try download a channel list from the plugins menu. I am unfamiliar with willow build but if you could try press menu, plug ins, green button download plugins and then look under settings. Settings are the ready make channel lists. If any are available, choose one that has 28.2 in the title. Once it's downloaded exit out. Press the ok button on remote and push up this should bring up a channel list. There should be an option that says satellite on one of the buttons. Usually yellow or green. Pushing one of these will bring a list of satellites and you can select astra 28.2 and it should give you a whole list of channels that will work with your dish.
 
Have you tried switching the lnb ports?
Can you run another cable to test its not the new cable you have fitted, no need to clip it in just dry run it to test.
 
Could try using your multimeter on beeper test (continuity test) and test between innner and outer cables on the f connector when disconnected from the receiver. If you get a beep it's bad.
