I posted over a year ago to get opinions about whether to upgrade to a newer Mag box. The general response was that iptv providers are stopping supporting them due to security issues so I held off getting a new one but everything has continued to run smoothly. Are there any actual cases of end users getting grief about using a mag box or is this just a 'it could happen' thing?
Last time I said I wasn't bothered about 4k but we finally upgraded the tv so think I should now take the plunge. I've tried watching YouTube videos of, for example, the Shield which came highly recommended on here and the interface looks way worse than what you get with the Mag box. The reality is, the main user will be my other half and she hates anything fiddly. With the mag box, you switch the input on the remote and boom, list of channels. Job done. Not fancy but as easy to use as can be. From what I can see (and the videos don't necessarily show all), the other options drop you into a place which is trying to serve you Netflix, Kodi, whatever.... I have a Firestick setup with Kodi on another tv upstairs and she won't touch it as she hates the interface of the Firestick and the way you have to jump through menus instead of it taking you straight there. There's also zero maintenance with the mag box, it just works. Kodi requires some tlc every now and again to keep it running and, to be honest, I simply can't be bothered.
Given all that, unless I'm missing something, it feels like a Mag box would be the best bet again.
If I buy it and our stream gets cut off after a couple of months then so be it. Then we're forced into switching to one of the android options out there and the good lady will have to adapt. Or am I missing something else that would make it a bad decision?
If we do go for one, any thoughts on which would be the best option? The three linux models all have identical specs listed on the page here so not sure what the difference is: Choose your MAG
