Ford focus belt noise

Hi all i have a couple of strange noises coming from my 2009 ford focus 1.8 petrol the first noise is when the engine is cold there is a loud squeak that stops when i press the clutch down and goes completely when warm the other noise seems to be coming from the alternator area almost like a belt is to tight the belt seems ok i am not sure if the alternator is failing i have no warning lights on any advice would be great
 
Open bonnet before starting car and have a kettle of water to hand and start car up if noise is there pour water onto rubber belt and if noise goes its your fanbelt.
Look at belt when engine is off as it could be like tank tracks with all those cracks or just perished gone hard and when belt is warm noise goes.

Do you normally stop at lights with car in gear as it could be your clutch release bearing been noisy when cold and when warmer goes quiet.

Sounds like a clutch release bearing.. or tensioner, has the clutch been renewed, or timing belt replaced,

Yeah classic clutch release bearing gone dry and can get very noisy.
Old ladie's mk1 focus has been like this for last 3 years but still operates ok so no major surgery yet lol.
Has for the noisy belt scenario same as @cactikid has suggested pour some water on the belt if it goes quiet then its your belt probably worn on the ribs.
If belt dont go quiet it could well be the alternator bearing - water pump - powersteering pump bearing etc.
You would then have to back the belt tensioner off and take the auxillary belt off and carefully inspect each of the items for dry bearings etc.
If your really unlucky it could also be the timing belt tensioner or idler pulley bearing
 
Thanks all the clutch is still the original one 96000 miles and it is has a timing chain not cambelt so it sounds like the clutch release bearing should i wait until the clutch is worn out or change it all any way i tried some wd 40 on the belt and it stopped for a few seconds

Personally on 96k I would change the clutch. But thats my opinion.
 
If the car is your main daily driver etc then you might want to get it changed sooner rather than later.
And yeah forgot mk2 had Duratec chain engine same as mk3 mondeo lol
 
Wd40 on rubber :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Bloody hell i said kettle of water as wd 40 will rot the belt as-1 less use of it.

Clutch can be expensive and they MUST change the hydraulic bearing while doing the clutch.
 
I tried a small amount of water on the Serpentine belt and the noise stopped for a short time so i will order a new belt hopefully it should be ok to change
 
I have just changed the serpentine belt and the air con belt as well it turned out to be the top pulley that was making the noise they are stretch belts so ok to do the top belt but i had to undo the air con pump to get a bit lever ridge to stretch it on.
 
Gobshites who invented stretch belts , ohh that reminds me i have a kit i could sell when i find it in one of 30 boxes.
