Data Throttling

I'm sure Vodafone are throttling my mobile data. In the work carpark my signal is pretty ropey (1/3 Mbps) on 3 occasions, I've gone to get my phone and downloaded a message of several megabytes.
It starts the download, slow but making steady progress. As its nearly finished 95% it grinds to a halt and the time left goes up and up to over an hour lol.
I hit the home button and open the VPN and it comes down as quick as it started. (Cnuts) Lol

I stuck a few logins on a fstick for my mate and a VPN a few weeks ago. It was all working fine until he tried to watch the Tyson fight and blank screens. Then he remembered the VPN and as soon as he put it on, on came the fight. He's on Virgin Media broadband.

One of my friends has Vodafone as her ISP. Her job is creating subtitles for Netflix series in Norwegian. She obviously needs access to this platform to do her job. In the evenings she was unable to stream anything without constant buffering and issues. I told her to switch on a VPN - suddenly everything is working as expected. It proves Vodafone do rate limiting or traffic shaping during "busy" home user times. I wonder if they would accept their monthly payments drip fed over the month rather than a one off payment?

IMO they are a terrible ISP. Never met anyone on them that has positive stuff to say about them.

They let you out of contract if you prove your speeds are crap

In this case it will be IP blocking by ISP rather than rate limiting.

She was looking into this. She can't say it's for her work, as they will just come back and say she needs a business subscription. ISP's are at it!

It only happened on the fight night. Been ok since :)
Yeah - I'm on VM and it's IP Blocking

I need VPN on for my IPTV when Sky wknd football matches are on. Sky supply VM with Sky Sports and they will have a list of IP's that are providing illegal streams of the football. I suspect they are only allowed to block the source IP's during the event being broadcast. As soon as it's finished I don't need the VPN. I also noticed they block some UK VPN IP's - I switch to a different country and it works fine.

Same.
Its happens 45-55 mins before Sat 12:30 kick off.
Sunday too at around 1pm.
Same midweek.

Some suppliers are supplying apps with built in vpn others can get around the blocks and others just say use a vpn

I have Vodafone isp, can't say I have ever had issues with blocks. I had a line fault once, it was easy to diagnose on their app and was fixed promptly.

I always change the DNS settings on the router to cloudfare DNS service (1.1.1.1) , instead of the isps DNS servers. There are other public DNS servers , Google for example have there own.

Do you use cloudflare’s secondary DNS as well or a different one?

Check the plan you are on with Vodafone as they are sneaky, some of their "unlimited" plans come with a speed cap. I saw this when searching for a new phone and my plan says its a "business" plan even though it isn't. But with it I get full 5g speeds
