Android Encryption

My phone got stuck after the latest OS update.
After having to re flash the phone via Odin I've LOST access to my files on my encrypted SD card.
Why is the encryption based on software i.e. the OS and not the hardware encryption.

My question is, is there anyway to recover the encrypted files?

Seems stupid if the card was encrypted in the phone and now in the same phone cant be read?

Any help on this would be much appreciated, My life is on that SD card..

the trial version only allows a small amount to be recovered but that is the program you need, how effective it is I have no idea.
