advice please- looking for a decent satellite 'finder'

hi, ive recently bought a multi sat dish and am having trouble finding the satellites I want to tune to. the dish was second hand and had four dual feed lnbs already attached. i was hoping it would be point find and view!!

however I can only get 28.2 so far, from two different lnbs when I rotate the dish, though I did manage to pick up 19.2 until I moved the dish for a clearer 'view'

can anyone recommend a decent, easy to use but well priced (for the buyer, not necessarily the seller !) satellite meter? I have a simple type, so looking for one that can identify the satellites and allow me to reposition the lnb's, on the assumption that ive moved them when installing,

~

Looking towards front of dish use the right hand lnb for eutelsat 28.2e [sky]----the second in should be 23.5e then 19.2e and far left 13e.
Use a smart phone app to locate direction and identify.

When I installed my dish (bare in mind it wasn't multisat). I used the android app DMsatfinder combined with £5 sat finder from ebay. After a few attempts I now have a very good signal.

thanks Grim,

as I look from the front of the dish ( I assume that's what you meant when you said looking towards the dish?), I get astra 28.2 on the right hand side, its a pretty good signal - but I don't get any others. I am not sure whether its the lnb's out of alignment or whether its some other issue ie not setting up my h2s menu correctly, the disecq switches not working correctly, which is why I was looking for a meter of some sort to accurately find and align the others one by one and bypass the diseq switches at first.

the person I bought it from said that I don't point the lnb's directly at the required satellite, as it uses the large dish to collect the signals and then those signals 'bounce' off onto the smaller dish which in turn direct the signal to the individual lnb's. which is why I was looking for some sort of meter to attach to the individual lnbs one by one to make sure they are getting signals from whichever satellite I am trying to pick up - which are the ones you have already suggested !

I will have a go at aligning one of the others by setting the h2s to 'look for 23.5' and only connecting the lnb second from the right as I look from the front - that might work? I will leave the dish where it is as its on a good 28.2 signal alredy

any advice, tips are gratefully received !!!

Kiddac, finding 28.2 is pretty easy to be honest with a single lnb/ single sat dish, using the bog standard sat meter - just be thankful your missus doesn't know youre considering playing with muti sat dishes LOL

You need to place the dish where is the best signal and then you will need to transport L-band signal over the fiber

latest update, I have no problems getting 28.2 but cant seem to locate anything else, I suppose its trial and error using that sort of dish

just to see if I was doing things correctly, I set up another dish, with a multi lnb arm (just two lnbs though on this so far), I can set it to pick up 19.2 and 23.5 without any problems, therefore its probably a problem with the original wave frontier dish (more likely to be the way ive set it up rather than the dish itself)

got lots of extra programmes, but to be honest so far I am a little underwhelmed about what I can view FTA - before I go ahead and look for subscriptions, can anyone tell me what I can expect to get (other than porn, which to be honest doesn't really fall into my interesting viewing category) - I was hoping for a lot more than what I am getting so far

ive done a search on programme listings from ~

http://en.satexpat.com/

and cant really see much to make the additional outlay worth it to me. as I got everything for a good price then I know I can get my money back and ive enjoyed tinkering with my bits (no, nothing to do with porn!) so, its not been a waste as ive got something out of it

so, the question is i suppose, best put onto another thread -- what do you watch on multi sat tv and is it FTA, in English or is a subscription of some sort required?

There are hundreds of channels [on the four sats that you are looking at] that broadcast in their own languce and with a flick of the audio button you can get in english.
19.2e---- AXN/Fox/TNT/Kids/M-Canal/Comedy/SKY/lots of sport etc
23.5e---Most of the dutch and CZE channels/FOX/Viasat/sports and lots of naughties all in english
28.2---Sky etc
13e---films/music/sports
The list is endless.
There may be a slight alteration on your dish---lnb 4 may be 16e so your line up could be [looking to dish from front] 28.2e/23.5e/19.2e/16e
16e gives tring movies etc and other channels you can change to english plus sports.

Thanks Grim, just doing a rescan of channels specific to the tuner ive set up for 19.2. I'm using the button marked audio on my remote and ive not found any with dual soundtracks yet ...

I assume that all the premium channels require some sort of subscription - but unless theyre different to what I can get on 28.2 - there seems little point

is there a way to organise into bouquets etc? I know you love your openboxes but I'm on a zgemma h2s

The channels on 19.2e are a mixture of spanish and german mainly and yes you will need a sub for multi sat
90% of the channels can be tuned to english----plenty to watch including Sky.
