Anybody has had any experience with running OPNSense as a firewall and dealing with bufferbloat issues, especially when it comes to IPTV. I have tried looking some more info related to Cake QoS within OPNSense but couldn't get much info really. This used to be less of a problem when I was running an Asus router on Asuswrt-Merlin which is a bummer as I much prefer a stronger firewall/router.]]>

Wifi extending Sun, 15 Oct 2023 12:49:39 +0000 https://www.techkings.org/threads/wifi-extending.170930/ 170930 invalid@example.com (liphook) liphook Hi, advice will be appreciated.

I live in a two storey house with solid brick walls, WiFi signal is good downstairs but is hit and miss upstairs.

I tried tp link WiFi extenders, but discovered that upstairs is on a different mains ring to downstairs, so they were no use.

im looking at a tp link mesh network -https://www.techadvisor.com/article/721027/tp-link-deco-p9-review.html

I have tried to read up but can’t find out if they also need to be on the same mains ring to work, or if the...

Been with sky fttp now for about a year. Sky's router does a okay ISH job. But I've never had the actual 1gb speeds they always falling around 500mb or 600mb.

So I've decided to buy another router first I tried a Asus ac86u all okay got a bit more speed but still not quite what I was expecting.

I read that a WiFi 6 router may improve this and went looking for a second hand one as they seemed dear new.

Finally won a Netgear rax80 for £80 quid all set up really easy...

Basicly it was just to add vpn to router as not really possible on Deco M4 you can add L2TP on the deco but not ideal.]]>

I'm looking for a bit of help if possible from people in the know.

Basically my broadband is with Vermin, and I've been with them for a few years now. I used to have my router on the floor under a table, this has recently been placed behind my TV after getting a media wall, this tidys up all my cabling which is great.

My issue is that now when I try to use my Wi-Fi connection in my office in my back garden (about 20m from router) my connection keeps dropping and is slower than...

Currently on VM broadband with hub 3. Medium sized hse, old school with brick walls.

Been reading about wifi extenders, I want something good medium budget range i'd say as I have seen them go over £150 mark. My budget is about £70 max

I have found the below two options, what do people think? The netgear one I think is the better as just uses the same wifi details as your router so you...

So after taking them out changed the SSID for 5ghz to just 5ghz at the end and restarted router but devices are not showing both wireless bands/frequencies but just the one combined one.

I did change the SSID 5ghz so would show both separately but still isnt any ideas?]]>

With the cost of electric being so high I was wondering which was the cheaper option , to run the switches 24hrs a day 365 days a year or to put all my devices on WiFi . According to the psu of the switch , it supplies 6w so assuming the switch takes 4w , that’s approx 100w a day , so 1 kw every 10 days . At 28p/ kw that’s just over £10 a year to run . Must admit , I thought it would be dearer than...
